League Rules?

By egudmunson, in X-Wing

Hi Folks-

I would like to start a local X-wing league in MPLS. what are so of the rules that people use? what works and what does not?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Where at? There's a lot of us who live in the area. I know a bunch of people who post here who play at the FFG event center in Roseville.

What kind of league are you thinking of? Escalation or something else?

I am in St Louis Park. what are the Escalation rules?

what are the Escalation rules?

That's where everyone starts off with say 25% of the max point values to build lists out of, then every week, 2 weeks or some other amount of time, it goes up to 50%, and then 75%, then 100%. For X-Wing I'd say start with say 50 points, then go to 60-70, then finally 100.

The idea is that it gives everyone time to build up their collection. That's a bigger issue with games where you have assemble, paint, base, ect... your models. For X-Wing you pretty much only need to buy what you want and you're done.

Otherwise, you could have everyone start with 100 points and then every time people play they get points for a win, and the end of the season who ever has the most points wins some sort of prize.

Or if you were so inclined you could come up with some sort of campaign system where each fight had an effect on next weeks battles. So say someone stars off with Wedge, Biggs and 2 X-Wings. If Wedge gets destroyed (not run off the edge) he can't be used next week. But if he runs off the edge of the table he can be used in the next match.

At the local FLGS, me and a buddy are in charge of a weekly league. We keep it pretty simple. 4 week seasons, one per month.

$5 monthly entry fee for prize support.

1 point for playing a game, an additional point for winning.

You may change your list between games.

Usually 100 points, no time limit.

First 2 games per week count for your record. First two only, not best two if you get another one in.

Highest point total gets first pick of prizes.

If there is a store tournament (Not FFG Official), the winner from the previous season gets a first round bye and a win for purposes of Strength of Schedule rulings.

We have an average of 4-8 regular players, and a few who come in occasionally on league nights. Relatively small number of players, but most of us get a prize every month from FFG Tournament Kits and often get multiples of the alt art cards.

We have also occasionally added other aspects into it. We ran a campaign using Team Covenant's rules that ran for 2 months. Gave additional points for the team that came out on top each week. Also have had Furball games occasionally. All players whose ship was alive at the end of the game earn a victory point. What we do is mainly picked by what the players want at any point. Pretty social, lets you try out competitive lists against a variety of opponents, without the pressure of a tournament setting.

Thank you Engine25 i like those rules.

Next is there anyone in the MPLS area that would like to join a new X-wing League?
