What Next?

By evanger, in X-Wing

I know this has been done a million times (I have even started this sort of thread multiple times in the past!), but I can't apparently get enough of this sort of geek speculation!

Here are some available Rebel pilots that could still be used:

X-Wing Pilots from Rogue Squadron

Arhul Narra: I had never heard of this guy, but being listed as a co-founder of Rogue Squadron alongside Wedge and Luke makes him a very attractive "Ace".

Gavin Darklighter: guy from many novels

Flew Against a Death Star, Yavin or Endor (and died, like Biggs & Arvel)
Pretty select company. These people have screen time, too.

John D Brannon: X-Wing, Red 4

Elyhek Rue: X-Wing, Red 7

Bren Quersey: X-Wing, Red 8

Theron Nett: X-Wing, Red 10

Tiree: Y-Wing, Gold 2 (shot down by Vader)

Davish "Pops" Krail: Y-Wing, Gold 5 (shot down by Vader)

Grizz Frix: X-Wing

Ekelarc Yong: Y-Wing

Sila Kott: A-Wing; female pilot

Keir Santage: X-Wing, Red 7 (flew into 2nd Death Star with Lando, Wedge, Tycho, Horton, and Farrell)

Flew Against a Death Star (and Lived!)

Gemmer Sojan: A-Wing vs DSII and GR-75 Transport pilot at Hoth ("Bearing Lifter")

I'm hoping for a Snoopy vs Red Baron expansion!

Of course I still need to get my hands on Maverick and Goose.

From that list of ships, their are a number of them that would have been used by both the Rebel Alliance and the Empire during the Galactic Civil War:

Naboo N-1 (unlikely to be seen, as it is so much a part of as-yet unused Prequel trilogy)

Cloakshape Fighter (seen in the FFG RPGs, said to have been used by "various" affiliations)

Cutlass-9 Patrol Fighter

Belbullab-22 (General Grievous flies one, I think)

ARC-170

Eta-2 Actis interceptor

Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing

Rebel only stuff:

Delta-7 Aethersprite interceptor

YT-2400 light freighter/ Outrider

added the K-Wing to list above just to show how it is outside the timeline range, as of yet

Imperial only (mostly Bounty Hunter):

JumpMaster 5000/ Punishing One (Dengar the bounty hunter's ship; also seen in FFG RPGs)

G-1A starfighter/ Mist Hunter (Zuckuss and 4-LOM's ship. As mentioned elsewhere, had something to do with escape from Hoth)

IG-2000 (IG-88's ship; appears to be one-of-a-kind, however. Might be a strike against it)

Repaints:

One can easily imagine some kind of re-paint/re-package for the following ships:

CR90 Corellian Corvette (change the red accents to blue and make it an Imperial vessel)

GR-75 (technically used by both sides as well. An Imperial version could be made)

Y-wings alongside cards for bombs, cards for 2nd crew member?

I would love to see an Imperial YT.

I want to see more of the pilots from Rogue Squadron, but that's just personally.

I'd like to see more of the game elements improved, so for example an imperial large ship set that includes the TIE advanced and some new pilots cards (and perhaps a Chardaan clone?)

Was thinking the other day. Could the rule set be expanded to include atmosphecic flight and land units (tokens for footsloggers)

Battle of Hoth would be a good Core set (2x Snowspeeders, 1 AT-AT and 1 AT-ST)

The core mechanics would work think that the manuveres would need a few additions to make the current star fighters maintain their respective speed versus ground units, atmo flyers

You could include the R-41 Starchaser and the T-Wing from the '90s PC games.

I still think the next things we'll see after Rebel Aces will be two Imperial capital ships, one of which comes with a TIE Advanced reissue, then Wave 5 will be Shadows of the Empire ships.

Two words .... Episode VII

Two words .... Episode VII

That's in the Fall of 2015.

I would estimate that is after everything they have yet announced has been released, plus a wave or two.

Guessing at ~2+ waves worth of stuff released per year.

2014: Imperial Aces (Wave 3.5, slipped here from 2013), Rebel Transport, Corellian Corvette, Wave 4, Rebel Aces (Wave 4.5, right at the end of the year, if lucky)

2015: Wave 5, Wave 6 then new Movie?

Keeping in mind two game changers:

1. Star Wars Rebels the cartoon series (in the timeline sweet spot for this game, and new!) will be out in Fall 2014. Theoretical Waves 5 and 6 could certainly have tie-ins to that.

2. This is, apparently, FFG's most commercially successful game...EVER. All bets are off, so to speak, with what they might achieve in terms of releases. We are in uncharted waters, where past performance doesn't necessarily help predict future results.

I would love to see an Imperial YT.

I have a suspicion that this won't happen.

My gut feeling is that droids with personality and light freighters are solidly (and exclusively) in the camp of the Rebels.

I would venture to say it might be a rule from on high, from the canon-police.

You could include the R-41 Starchaser and the T-Wing from the '90s PC games.

I can't quite recall why they are left off my list, but there was a reason.

Perhaps the era or something.

Another way I have been meaning to look into this is by comparing the "Where Seen" type info from the various ship's Wookiepedia entries.

My gut feeling says that ships showing up in more than one place (especially cross media platforms) are more likely to show up than those exclusive to a single source material.

It also could be neat to look at something like Google search history data for each ship name, to see how prevalent they are out in the collective psyche of the fanbase.

I guess from Joker Two 's comment on this other thread we'd be likely to see the following:

Yevethan D-Type Trifoil Fighters

Simply because the E-Wing is shooting at one in the card art!

As I understand it, they are out around the time period of the K-Wing as well.

And PiercedMonk 's speculation concerning the Rebels cartoon, namely:

VCX-100/ Ghost the new light freighter for the heroes

"curved wing" TIE Advanced ship of the main bad guy

I guess the VCX-100 might supplant the YT-2400 as the next Rebel large ship.

I would want both, personally.

If they only chose one, the nod might go to the new kid on the block, however.

I don't understand why there is not Red 1-10

How many waves do you think FFG will release? 6? 7? 15?

Star Wars: Rebels is coming out this summer and will likely offer a whole slew of new Rebellion-era ships, such as the Ghost .

Without pictures, everything is just a bunch of letters and numbers to me...

I don't understand why there is not Red 1-10

maybe to much named pilots ?

look at the imperials not any black squadron or other kind of squadron members got printed aswell and thats kinda good we need our generics for customisation and such !!
