Page 2 from the FAQ:

Q: If a player has multiple effects that resolve at the same time, can he resolve them in any order?

A: Yes.

The [crit] result, or other dealt Face-up card, looks at both simultaneously. If Chewie want to he use his ability to flip it over first at which time Determination doesn't know a thing about it. Alternatively, he can run it by Determination first which will throw it out if it is a "pilot" card after which Chewies ability will flip a remaining card face down. If you're using this strategy you usually stack things the second way.
