Taking the Bait Weirdness

By Draco Mageat, in UFS Rules Q & A

Ever since I bought the lizardman starter, I've been having problems working out wether Taking the Bait is unique or not but now I've found out why: I have atleast 2 copies of the card, one from the lizardman starter and one from the yoshimitsu one and one of them doesn't have the keyword.

what I want to know is, which one is the correct printing? Is there even a correct printing? I once knew of one card (Begginers Luck?) that had 1 ability normally and one that was only useable if you had the starter deck version it was printed on.

also, assume this is like that and only one version is unique, what would happen if I tried to play both?

There were two versions of the card printed. One comes as a fixed card in the starter and the other is a random card found in the random parts of starters and packs. The one that is fixed is unique and random one is not unique, and it should be played as printed. If you play the unique one you may only have one copy at a time in play, but if you play the other you may have up to 4 in play.

Stamp for Baranor...

ok, thanks for that but question 2 has not been answered. what happens if I have 2 in play, one unique, one not?

does the most recent one die as though they were both unique? do they both survive? or does it matter which one hit play first?

It doesn't matter which one hit play first, but as soon as the Unique version comes into play you have to choose all but 1 copy to blow up.

so if one copy is unique the all are.

that's a real pain!

oh well, thanks for clearing up that mess.

Note though, Unique doesn't matter "when it enters play" it matters when it enters your staging area.

So for example you could play the Unique taking the bait from your hand. Play 3 more foundations. Use the form on the 3 taking the baits you had in your staging area that didn't have the unique keyword. Play 8th Bill of Punishment and make your opponent cry. At the end of the turn the Unique TTB woudl move down, while the other three would be discarded as per the effect of the form.

sorry, I primarily play magic so play = staging area. card pool remains cardpool though...
