How long do you think new product will last at Gen Con?

By Deerock, in X-Wing

It has been too long since I've been to Gen Con and I am trying to justify the trip by telling myself that there is a good chance that I will be able to purchase the next wave of ships months earlier than if I waited for them to arrive at a FLGS in Milwaukee (irony), and am hoping that there will be another huge reveal along the lines of last year as a bonus.

Unfortunately I would most likely be unable to attend until Saturday. Can anyone tell me how long new X-Wing product took to sell out last year? I am rather pessimistic at my chances of picking up anything FFG unveils days after the hardcore fans have had a shot at it.

Thanks for your time!

Last year, they went through their stock fairly quickly the first few days. Rationed via tickets, I believe. But I came in on Sunday and they had TONS of Wave 3. Not so much with Wave 2, though. So, depends on how much stock they fly in, which they will do if it is hot. I do strongly suggest avoiding FFG's booth till later. Insane lines.

Wave 4 should be out by then. I'm thinking July at the latest. I'm willing to bet Rebel Aces will be the prerelease that is available at Gencon, so there shouldn't be as much of a feeding frenzy as if it was an entirely new wave. And I'm sure they will have something new and shiny in their display case.

The line at GenCon was not that bad on any of the days. At most I waited an hour to get in the booth. While you are waiting you get to watch some demos of other good games Fantasy Flight has.

Opening day on Thursday was really long, I waited nearly two hours to get in, and the line snaked through half the trade hall, but it was well controlled and that was the only day the line was so long.

About 10 minutes... I would think Saturday would be a bit late.

I stood in line on Thursday, and waited a while for it. The card ration was nice. Prevented you from having to continue to wait in line, and could return when you wanted. If you had a card, you were guaranteed the product on the card.

As Wave 4 is scheduled to, and likely to ship in June, I would say GenCon is about 6 weeks later than you could get them anywhere else.

FFG is generally very good about having appropriate stock at GenCon (there is another miniature company that is notoriously horrible about their GenCon stock...).

I can't remember ever having issues with FFG and buying pre-released product.

More people play this game now, so I expect a greater turnout. Hope FFG expects that too!

I remember them having issues with Netrunner. But Netrunner was insanity. It was so much hotter than FFG expected. They flew in as much as they could, but it wasn't nearly enough. I also suspect that the Rebel Aces won't be as in demand as Wave 3.
