must have 1ed monsters?

By thedremak, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I hear kobolds are good, any others? And what expansion were kobolds from?

Kobolds are pretty good due to their numbers. They were originally in Well of Darkness (which makes them pretty hard to find in terms of the miniatures).

Other must-haves IMO are: Ogres, Wendigos, Giants (coming out in the new H&M packs), Shades, and Medusae.

Sorcerers are also pretty spectacular.

I'm sure the fact that their split ability ignores group limits also contributes to their rarity - even though you don't need all the kobolds that came in WoD to fill out the 2E monster group, people hold on to the extras since they might get into play anyway.

Kobolds, ogres and razorwings have always been my personal faves. Giants are an old standby, of course.

I also make heavy use of hellhounds (both in 1E and 2E), but that's mostly because my hero players for some reason feel compelled to kill hell hounds immediately and with great prejudice, moreso than other monsters. I use them to distract the heroes from their goal more than anything else. :P

I'm really wanting kobolds now. I'm imagining how well the could work with Splig's promotion.

5 move, Pierce 3/4 and Fire Breath on the entire 4-figure group are probably the main reasons your heroes kill them ASAP. Leaving all that potential damage -- especially on maps with narrow corridors -- is a lot more dangerous than you seem to think. High Pierce on attacks that could potentially hit ALL heroes is reason enough to smite them on sight.

they work really better with Splig agent "get them", so they ALL could attack again, with swarm, and on top of that, a Splig's plot deck card can give a surge an all attacks.

So, I will they it's a full team KO if well played

I took Nurglings from Games Workshop for my Kobolds. I know this is proxing but Tomb of Ice and the other expansions are hard to get, and when you get them they are expensive. Searched for many Monster models. I only got starter set of D1 and Seas of Blood.

Did the same with the heroes searched for some Miniatures that look like the heroes what are missing and Play them as Proxy until the 2 H&C's are released and arrived in Austria.

Since the monster and heroes pack will propose new minis for monster, I can sell back mine olds.

Perhaps my appreciation of their powers is mitigated by the fact that my hero players rarely allow them to live long enough to attack. In any event, they serve their purpose wonderfully.
