So my wife is up for some Xwing, but tends to prefer co-op games to more competitive ones, thus she tasked me with trying to come up with a variant that would allow us to play together, as opposed to head-to-head. This is what I've got so far:
Clearing Space
The [insert side of your choice] is building an orbiting space station and needs its young pilots to clear a debris field to make way for the orbital path.
Set up:
Each player purchases ship up to X (an amount to be predetermined) amount of points, and positions their ships on differing sides of the field. Create a pile of asteroids off to the side (to be used later) or 3 asteroids per player in the game.
In the middle, place one large asteroid.
To determine asteroid Pilot Skill, roll 6 red dice and total all Hits, Crits, and Focuses rolled. The asteroids will move on a PS equivalent to that number.
Play:
The goal is to destroy each asteroid, as it appears on the table, before it floats off into nebulous space. Asteroids have 1 agility, and 4 hull. When an asteroid is destroyed, remove that token from the table(do not return it to the previous stack), and replace it with 2 asteroid tokens, 1 length maneuver apart (perpendicular to the ship that destroyed the original).
Each subsequent turn, these asteroids move 1 movement toward the edge of the game space. When an asteroid is shot, and hit, it changes its movement to move in a straight line away from the direction from which it was shot.
If a player bumps an asteroid, roll 2 red dice (instead of 1), and suffer any damage indicated, as well as any other standard asteroid effects.
If a player bumps another ship, both ships roll 1 red die and suffer any damage indicated, as well as other standard 'bump' effects.
If a player fires at an asteroid and misses entirely, they must remake the attack against any ships within firing range (standard range and arc rules apply).
The game is won if all asteroids in the stack are destroyed. The game is lost if all ships are destroyed, or if any asteroids move out of the field of play.
