Roark Garnet and using his ability with swarm tactics.

By ianbarney210, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My question has to do witha tactic i tried a while back. I had 4-5 a wings all with swarm tactics and assault missles. I also had Roark Garnet in the HWK 290 his ability allows him to at the start of combat phase make another ships pliot ability 12. Would that said pilot, if he had swarm tactics be able to make another pilot ( at range 1) skill 12? Also could you chain this effect to all the other A's if they also had swarm tactics. The end result being you would have an amazing Alpha strike of A wings with assault missle pilot skill 12.

You are correct! Swarm tactics chains are cool until you loose the high skill pilot fueling the chain.

Thanks!

The debate in our group was about wether or not the effect of Raoark garnet workde at the same time as swarmtactics. I.E. because they were both at the start of combat phase swarm tactics had to go with the pilot value on the card not on the increased value from garnet.

(Emphasis mine) Which means that they fall under this FAQ ruling:

Q: If a player has multiple effects that resolve
at the same time, can he resolve them in
any order?

A: Yes.

The FAQ is also pretty clear that "chaining" Swarm Tactics from ship to ship works:

Q: Can multiple ships that have Swarm Tactics
equipped use the upgrade in sequence to
give each of those ships the original ship’s
pilot skill value?
A: Yes. For example, the Rebel player has equipped
both Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker with
Swarm Tactics. He uses Wedge’s Swarm Tactics to
treat Luke’s pilot skill as a 9, then use Luke’s Swarm

Tactics to treat Rookie Pilot’s pilot skill as a 9.

So there is a solid base for saying that Roark's ability works the way you originally posted.

Thanks for the info this answers my question. Also when the rebel aces pack comes out i can use the new upgrade card to get another elite pilot ability and give the A's push the limit as well.
