Heroclix Refugees?

By Mesrob, in X-Wing

I remember reading a topic about Warhammer refugees coming over to X-wing miniatures, but was wondering if anybody gave up on Heroclix and jumped over to playing X-wing miniatures also? I played Heroclix briefly, and I quickly got tired of the r idicoulously complicated rules, and the whole chase/super rare figure aspect of the game. Once I started playing X-wing, I gave up on Heroclix. Easy to learn and play, no spending insane amounts of money to get the ultra rare figures is what brought me here. So, was wondering if anybody had the same experience? Thanks.

I haven't given up on heroclix just yet. I still judge a weekly game and play in a tournament once or twice a month. I do not play anyway a near as much as I use to. It was typical for me to play two or three tournaments a week. Some of the other clix players also play X-Wing and they not ready to through in the towel either. It's still a fun game but the constant rule changes from set to set are annoying.

I'm also Clix refugee. I still have some of my favorite pieces, but sold the rest to Miniature Market in order to fund this new hobby. I hated the power creep, the chase aspect, and the constant rules changes--but that wasn't enough for me to switch.

What really sold me was how well X-Wing reflects the source material and how poorly Clix seem to reflect theirs. The best teams were never thematic and the slow pace of game never felt like a superhero game. The endless variety of brandname heroes gave us too many Clix that didn't feel like their comic counterparts, but Wedge always feels like Wedge.

I've played GamesWorkshop games for 10 years, and don't plan on giving it up,but don't plan on spending anymore money on it.X-Wing is much more affordable. I'm just waiting to see if GW will jump on the bandwagon and develop a game based on X-Wing.... :P

I've pretty much given up 40k for this game. I've played 40k since '89 and finally the horrible company, insane prices, increasingly bad models, and flat out horrible and tedious rules have driven this loyal customer away.

I gots lots of X-Wing stuffs. Couldn't be happier.

Screw that game/company/apologists that continue to support that companies decisions.

FFG is the company that Games Workshop USED to be. I hope they stay private and never sell out.

me and my three buddies where die hard collectors but like you I got tired of the super rare collecting that is excessively expensive, though I still have all my heroclix im making a deal with a friend for around 600 dollars for all of them to put towards x wing, it seems like a lot but building up an army of sentinel's with master mold was very expensive. The battle mechanics of x wing are superior in every way in my opinion and I have to agree with a previous comment that x-wing actually reflects the source material where as heroclix has turned into a money grab constantly redesigning characters and making previous expensive purchases obsolete

Did they actually do a master mold model of some kind, or were you talking about scratch building one? Back in the day I toyed with the idea of doing a master mold terrain piece for scenario play.

No they released a master mold who can spit out sentinel replacing dead sentinels as long as its under the build total plus a whole new whack of sentinels I have 6 variations of sentinels I can put out

I sold all my Warhammer stuff to get x-wing here are a couple of reasons why,

First- Rule book is about 10 pages and straight forward.

Second- I can drop 85 (core and XBB expand) and have a shot at winning worlds and never spent another dime.(then sell the tie fighters and make about 30 bucks)

Third- I did at one point enjoy building and painting but the older I get the less time I now have.

Fourth- I can play a game in 30 minutes

Fifth- I can teach another person the whole game and play a round in about 60 minutes.

Sixth- The game is balanced. There is no one ship wins all, in fact a Falcon vs a Shuttle is pretty fun to watch and they have about the same odds

Seventh- every year I can drop about 200 and get everything I want for both

Last- everyone wants to look at the models and learn how to play this game I show.

At retail you can drop 500 on x-wing and have everything one side has to offer and not spent another dime for years, and you can finish 50 point games in about 30 minutes. It really is a no brainer to make the switch.

The only beef I have is there is a lot of tokens for the game I wish they could have come up with a better system.

amen!

USe little markers, instead of putitng a token down for focus, evade etc, just put the marker on the ship's tile on the corresponding action it took that turn.

The two games fill very different roles in my life. I love both games, and am glad that the lack of rarity in X-Wing allows me to focus on collecting Heroclix.

I too have heroclix. But now with the changes in power and power creep. I have nearly stopped playing it.

I think I got out of Clix sometime around the first Avengers expansion. Too expensive, and they're still taking up three boxes worth of space in my attic.

I had heard about Heroclix, but never actually looked at pictures of it...

To be honest, it really doesn't appeal to me - the bright colors make it seem almost childish and there doesn't seem to be any uniformity / cohesion to the miniatures. I suppose it's to fit the comic book look... Maybe I just didn't find a good photo ( http://toychop.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/custom-heroclix-city-map.jpg ).

Eh, to each his own!

When it first can out, heroclix was a great fun game, easy to just puck up and play. All powers fell onto a chart that everyone had. The paint jobs were terrible (pie eating hyde!) But it was the.first game I remember becoming popular that married the gaming community and the comic book community. I had some great memories playing the game, I had my galactose (stop it autocorrect) and specter. What killed me was when everyone had their own card and you could start adding abilities to figures. That holy terror that was hypersonic superman that was immune to outwit was the nail that sealed the coffin. I had almost every figure up to armor wars (I think it was called), and deeply loved playing. I miss it, missed the old scrims we would do with factions, games with 5+ 300 point teams, and the mayhem and chaos that came in the grand melee. What I don't miss was the power creep, trying to collect essentially 3 of each character, and the terrible paint jobs.

I never got into heroclix myself. I do, however, have a large tackle box full of MechWarrior: Dark Age stuff. I need to pull that sucker out and see if I can use it for X-Wing.

I played Heroclix pretty hardcore until they canceled it back in 2008 (?), after that the community around here fell apart. We all played Monsterpocalypse for a while after that, but sadly they stopped producing that as well. X-Wing is the first miniatures I have played in many, many years.

Same here, but none of what I have is really useable..

Friends don't let friends play clix.

I'm still an avid Heroclix player. The game is killing itself though. Every expansion seems to bring new things that just add paragraphs for rules for a single piece. The rules are a mess. Every major expansion needs about a page or two of errata. There is definitely a noticeable trend of figures increasing in power for the same cost as older figures over time.

The game just isn't managed very well. The rate of expansions and the configurations have made collecting a chore. Its clear the company running the game doesn't believe it should be possible for someone to collect it all. So I'm starting to wonder why I should collect any of it. I mean, I have my own reasons but it does make me wonder.

My experience with Heroclix has made me keep completely away from Star Trek Attack Wing. If I didn't think Dragons were so cool, I wouldn't want anything to do with the new D&D game either.
