Runner knowledge of upgrades

By Forgottenlore, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

Does the runner know whether a lone face down card in a remote server is an upgrade or and agenda/asset?

I thought I had read that upgrades went in a different "slot" than the other two, but I couldn't find the reference.

Upgrades in Central Servers go in the Root (placed below the server).

Upgrades in a Remote Server are installed exactly like an Agenda or Asset. The runner should not be able to tell it's an upgrade.

If you install two cards in a Remote, then the runner now knows that at least one one (and maybe both) are upgrades, as you may only have one asset/agenda per server.

Also the Corp cannot swap the positions of cards once installed, for example, to try and obfuscate which of two cards is an Agenda if it bad been previously Exposed.

Cool thanks

You can install more than one upgrade on a single server? I don't think I knew that. Probably should have because of the text on regions though, exception proving the rule and all.

You can install any number of upgrades in a single server, but you can only have one Region upgrade per server. No double SanSan City Grids allowed, unfortunately...

I have a related question: how does the Corp player lay out his cards when he hosts a card on an upgrade? For example, the Corp player has an agenda and an Awakening Center installed facedown in a single server and wants to host a piece of bioroid ice on the Center. Where do you place the ice, and can the runner tell that the ice is hosted on a facedown asset?

You can not host anything on a facedown card. Remember when a card is not rezzed it is inactive and therefore any abilities on it are inactive as well

ICE hosted on Awakening Center are Installed facedown and usually sideways to show that they are on the Awakening Center.

One other important note: You can install as many copies of Unique cards that you want (subject to other restrictions like Regions, as mentioned above). However, only one can be Active. This means that when the Runner Installs a new copy of a Unique card, she must Trash the old one (Runner cards are always Active). When the Corp Installs a card, however, it is Inactive. Only when he Rezzes it does he check to see if there are any other Active (i.e. Rezzed) copies.

Thanks for the clarifications!
