Deck Building Challenge: construct a squad that will Kill Han Solo

By The_Brown_Bomber, in X-Wing

My meta is rather flooded with Han Shoots first variants. I'm looking for a way to beat this specific squad and ideally remain competitive versus other squads out there as well.

"There will be a substantial reward for anyone who finds the Millenium Falcon. You are free to use whatever means necessary, but I want Han Solo dead! Preferably disintegrated!".

The Rules:

  1. Build an imperial squad of 100pts.
  2. You must include either one or two Firespray's.
  3. You can include secondary weapons and/or bombs/mines but no more than 12 combined points on them.
  4. Imperial Aces is allowed but use nothing from the other soon to be released expansions.

oh, beat me to it. too bad you can't fit Marksmanship or Expose in there

This can be nasty against HSF.

The Shuttle is 'nimble' and packs a punch. Kath is evil with Rebel captive and the 2 Obsidians will likely shoot before the filler ships.

Captain Jonus (26)

Nothing fancy here but the obvious idea is to load up on HS with cluster missiles and Jonus rerolls. 18 potential damage on Han with CM alone. And with your Shcimitar's rerolling and Han's 1 agility, Han may Shoot first, but he will likely only shoot once. Then your 3-4 ships including BH can mop up whatever x-wings are left.

I also like the idea of oppotunist on Jonus so he is more helpful after Han goes down and since he doesn't get the benefit of the reroll. Plus it allows him to stay behind the other bombers during the Alpha Strike. 12 Potential damage from the CM plus damage from the primary of Jonus and BH should still put a serious hurting on Han. Actually I like that squad idea a little more.

BH with Recon Spec. x 2

Lambda with E.U. and Adv. Sensors

OR

Boba Fett with PTL, E.U., Recon Spec. Proximity Mines

Kath with PTL, E.U. Recon Spec.

Why not drop the Clusters on Jonus and put them on the BH so it can use Jonus rerolls or add Slave-1 Unique name to the BH and give it a proton torp?

Before I forget, Missiles/Torps could lose some effectiveness if the HSF variant uses Expert Handling. DRATS! Maybe it can "force" barrel rolls.

Yeah good call. I never use missiles on Firespray so I forget that it can take them. CM on BH would be the way to go. I think I still like oppotunist on Jonus a little better for the points as it helps after Han is out of the way

Why's it gotta be imperial? I took down a well played HSF list this weekend with Bloody Daggers.

Your kidding right. Han Solo isn't that hard to kill. Taking a Firespray does make it a bit harder.

I beat a HSF list with this squad and killed han in 2 turns (he had chewie)

2 buzz saws and Krassis Trelix with Heavy Laser Cannon

Here is my list that is 4 and 0 against HSF:

BH

Soontir Fel+PtL+TC+Hull

Carnor Jax+PtL+Hull

Defense first, use BH to block, and use your high PS and PtL to keep out of trouble.

If you're taking a firespray against Han Solo, I don't think you need gunner. You could take a Bounty Hunter with Rebel Captive, Backstabber, and four academy pilots. Against the falcon (and other low agility ships), I prefer a lot of attacks to a few really good ones.

There have been some good posts on here about targeting priority, but in general you want to go for Han first, while you've still got a full squad.

It's putting a lot of eggs into an uncomfortably small number of baskets, but this could work :

Bounty Hunter (33)

Rebel Captive (3)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Slave I (0)

Gamma Squadron Pilot (18)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Cluster Missiles (4)

Captain Jonus (22)

Determination (1)

Homing Missiles (5)

Seismic Charges (2)

If Expert Handling is a concern, change the missiles and torpedoes on the Slave I into a Heavy Laser Cannon, and swap Determination for Deadeye. The odds of surviving that kind of damage are approximately 3,720 to 1.

OK....here we go!

Bounty Hunter + Darth Vader (crew) 36 points

2x OGP + FCS + Gunner + EU 64 points

You get to fast agile buzzsaws and a ship that can use Vader's ability even when it shoots behind itself!

2 x BH + Gunner

2 x Academy Pilot

This is a good all around squad that I've seen. Rear arcs help vs Falcon, as you know. The Firespray in general is just a good pick against the Falcon, imo.

Gunner is great for other types of lists as well, and honestly not a horrible buy vs 1 agility. Rolling zero hits can still make you lose, which gunner helps prevent. Let's you use bumping strategies to take out thesupport ships. Also improves your range 3 game, which is smart to do against a falcon, imo.

OR!

BH + Homing Missile

BH + Homing Missile

Academy Pilot

Acadmey Pilot

I just really like Homing missiles when I don't have PTL. Prevents use of MF title as well!

take three bounty hunters.

Have each of them bump the falcon, one front, and one on each side. Falcon has no shot.

Use BH's to shoot at the X-Wings or whatever else is included. Then you end up with just one falcon vs 2 BH's.

That will be impossible with your BH's moving first. The Falcon will bump 1, and then be at range 1 to the others, and that's if they are dumb enough to fly into the perfectly falcon shaped hole you made for them.

Seems like that would be hard to pull off

This list has inspired some more fun stuff. I like the idea of Firespray, Bomber, 2 Ties quite a bit. You get a good mixture othroug and upgrades, and you can do it with a variety of named pilots. I started with Kath, Gamma, Backstabber, AP, and am now expanding. Just mix and match to taste. The next on my lists is:

Major Rhymer + APT + Homing/Assault

Bounty Hunty + Recon Specialist

Academy Pilot

Academy Pilot

This might be good for countering HSF. Rhymer can 1 shot the support, or put the big hits on the falcon, I am hoping he lives to shoot both, which is not unlikely if you ram the APs and BH into the fray first.

Idk if it'll work against all sorts of lists, it has a fear of Rebel Swarms, as do many lists.

I still think the best way to kill falcons is with lots of TIEs, But if you really want to kill him in the first turn, I would try this list.

Krassis+Rebel Captive+Slave I+Proton Torpedo+Cluster Missiles

Captain Jonus+Squad Leader+Proton Bomb

Scimitar+Proton Torpedo+Cluster Missile

I recently made very shot work of a few HSF lists with 4 omicron shuttles.
