Longlases, how small can they get?

By doomande, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

In game terms, I'd go with (Best-Craftsmanship) a Micro'd Long-Las with a Scope and Whisper-Bolt Discharger.

Is it the best possible Long-Las? Of course not. But it's ridiculously compact, and the Scope compensates for the reduced range. If you don't mind reloads, you could also slap a Hot-Shot Charger on it.

Some of that of course requires you to pull on cross-book material. Micro is from Rogue Trader, and the Hot-Shot Chargers are from Only War, I think.

Hotshot charge packs are in the core book. The single shot probably doesn't matter since Micro cuts the magazine size down significantly anyway.

I'm not entirely sure, but does "Micro" not only increase the Rarity of the ammunition, rather than touching clip size?

I recall something about the ammunition being made smaller itself, too. Which in the case of a las weapon probably means a more advanced battery capable of storing greater amounts of energy in a smaller space.

(now, someone find a way to slap four Micro batteries together for a Hot-Shot chargepack with 4 rounds  )

Yep, rarity increased by two steps, no effect on magazine size. And while the thing is... pretty useful, I think I'd rather Micro different weapons for more efficient damage (since it now counts as a pistol, thus greatly reducing it's damage-potential... I'd probably use a Lathe-Boarding gun with Fire-Selector and lots of specialist ammunition...

Oh, and sorry for the like -> unlike, Lynata, misclicked when I wanted to quote you

Nah, luckily the Forums aren't Mario Kart or Mario Party. Or the Zombie-Survival PnP I once played, holy hell, GM never had to do anything to kill us... we took care of that within the first few minutes xD

Anyway, back to topic, I don't think it's that efficient to turn a longlas into a micro-longlas. I'd rather have a micro-boarding gun (that'd be one hell of a deck-sweeper) or... hmm... Compact Storm Bolter, dual wielding and backpack-supply... ouch... or two compact Vox-Legi pattern Combat Shotguns (which are quite OP anyway, stopping power of an Astartes Bolter? wtf?)

At some point the GM really should put his foot down and go "No, you can't do this, that's stupid."

I guess the point of threads like these is to see how far we can push our long-suffering GMs.

Well, I am mostly a GM myself and the biggest Powergamer in our group, so that's ok :D

But, yeah, at some point a GM has to make a stand, if necessary by throwing with burning cows.

The original idea was actually to avoid that, to find something that both was small and balanced without being stupid. That the GM had his own ideas about this, how you could twist of the barrel, get a longer back pack and then hide it is a whole other thing

There is such a thing as a compact sniper rifle, the SRS A1 for example
