Store Championship 29th March
Spartan Games, Wangsa Maju

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (doubt most people know where we are!)

Winning Squad (100 pts)

  • Kath Scarlett + PTL + Recon Specialist
  • Howlrunner + Swarm Tactics
  • Academy Pilot
  • Academy Pilot
  • Academy Pilot

1st Runner Up (100 pts)

  • Dagger Squadron
  • Dagger Squadron
  • Green Squadron + PTL + Concussion
  • Green Squadron + PTL + Concussion

2nd Runner Up (100 pts)

  • Dagger Squadron + Advanced Sensors
  • Dagger Squadron + Advanced Sensors
  • Gold Squadron + Ion Cannon Turret
  • Gold Squadron + Ion Cannon Turret

You guys may recognize the Firespray list from Team Covenant - I flew a variations of this in another Game Day and Regionals. Instead of usually going for Assault Missiles on Kath, I swapped it out for Recon Specialist and Swarm Tactics on Howl, since the meta had strongly changed from swarms to B-wings. Plus the Recon Specialist gave the Firespray a huge durability boost.

1st Round (100 pts)

  • Soontir Fel + PTL
  • Turr + VI (Veteran Instincts)
  • Saber Squadron + VI
  • Saber Squadron + VI

This game didn't go too well for my opponent, dice were better on my end and he lost a few actions due to Academy Pilot PS1 bumps - which are particularly deadly for Interceptors. Match win. I saw him get a match up against a Hans Shoots First list aftwerwards...super bad match up.

2nd Round (99 pts)

  • Howlrunner + Stealth Device
  • Winged Gundark
  • Night Beast
  • 4 Academy Pilots

Incredibly stressful but fun game due to my opponent's skill with the swarm. Semi-jousted him, and got hugely lucky with a maneuver with Kath that put the Firespray in a strong position, which was a game changer.

Oddly enough, we actually talked about this move right before I did it, because neither of us thought Kath would have made it. I did it anyway to get Kath into position for the next turn. We were joking about this afterwards, saying I had psyched him into thinking I wouldn't do it. Heck we just laughed about it an hour ago. Game went to time, got a Modified Win.

3rd Round (100 pts)

  • A-wing/B-wing list above.

Tough match, this, going to time too. A-wings were impossible to hit and their PTL + Concussion Missiles were eating my TIEs. Almost didn't catch this one but I got lucky because his already stressed A-wing drew a stress crit, forcing no actions in the next round. Kath picked him off. Modified Win with 50 pts destroyed vs 44 pts.

Great game day - but am starting to see the weakness in standard Swiss versus reverse Swiss and only getting to play 3 rounds.

Nice writeup! I'm your neighbour from down below. Good to see that our meta is quite different.

how many pilots took part in the event, and were there any interesting things to note? Like for ours nobody brought any Awings, so it was pretty encouraging to see the AABB making it to 2nd place

Ha nice. Gamersaurus? We were planning to head down some time.

There were 9 players this round. The previous regionals there were 15 or 16. We're a little hamstrung trying to get the community growing right now.

I think there were 2 builds with A wings only. I like A wings but they don't come with barrel roll as a stock action and that really puts me off!

Oh you'll see plenty B wings here! The regionals we had something like 10-14 b wings across 7 builds.

How's your store championship?

6 rounds non-stop, shag balls, play until you seh.

some of us were planning of crashing your tournament actually XD, we planned out the driving routes and all already, then last min balls drop nobody want go. Also because the very next day got the GR monthly tournament for imperial aces.

community here growing rapidly sia, every time tournament got 2-3 new faces, and weekly got more and more groups / places playing

Meta here is mostly rebels, focusing on Falcon because we have quite a lot of new players. TIEint everybody's been trying to get them to work, but because the timing coincide with the new players' Falcons, the imperial aces weren't particularly successful. We're seeing a lot of HWKs recently, mainly the rebel operative with either ion turret or the blaster configuration, probably due to the success it enjoyed in the store championship. Bwings still hot favourite, but cooling off rapidly as players discover more and more ways to drop it extremely quickly, like "don't expect it to live past round 2" kind of quickly, so they are gradually getting replaced by Xwings

Wow, sounds like it's building up faster than it is here!

That's really encouraging.

Our local meta, whilst mostly Rebels, tend to see the top seat dominated by Imperial builds - TIE Fighter swarms, TIE Bomber swarms and the like. I think we're slowly moving away from this, though. Our recent I think the game day before the recent store championship had 3 Imperial lists and 7 rebel lists.

When's your next game day? I'll see if I'm heading that direction.

Last sunday of the month = tournament at GR

We usually have a tourney in the middle of the month at BB
