interceptor and Shuttle list

By Captain_Arrr, in X-Wing

Haven't played X wing in a bit abd I am looking to get back in. I got Imp. Aces and I am looking to make a list that stays out of firing arc while the shuttle hangs back and fires into the furball.

Lt. Lorrir

23

Tetran Cowell

Ptl

27

Kir kanos

Ptl

27

Omnicron pilot

Vader

I have had some success with the following list, but maybe it's too early to consider it more than a lucky streak.

Two guys, one Cap

Soontir Fel 27

PtL 3

Royal guard interceptor

Stealth Device 3

Targeting Comp 2

Turr Phennir 25

PtL 3

Stealth Device 3

Cap. Yorr 24

Gunner 5

Fire control system 2

3 remaining points to whatever fits your style/initiative bids.

Why do people keep trying to shoehorn Targeting Computers on to Soontir?

Lorrir doesn't have an EPT slot, and so cannot take PtL

Since you are running a minimum-cost shuttle, you may as well throw Vader on there as crew.

Sounds good

Ya, no Ptl on loorir, vader on the shuttle is the way to go

Kir Kanos doesn't have an EPT either

I ran and won with it despite some bad rolls

Soontir fel PTL stealth device

Turr Phennir VI Stealth

OGP Engine Upgrade Gunner FCS Rebel Captive

We don't have imperial Aces yet. Once I do I will probably try a few different things but I am guessing I would settle on

Soontir fel PTL stealth device Targetting Computer

Turr Phennir VI Stealth Shield Upgrade

OGP Engine Upgrade Gunner FCS

If I were to try and run 3 interceptors and a shuttle I would run,

doom shuttle (OGP + Vader)

Lorrir

Royal Guard Interceptor PTL

Turr + VI

If Lorrir and Kir cant take ptl i had better get back to the drawing board.

Unless anyone thinks they are worth it?

Why do people keep trying to shoehorn Targeting Computers on to Soontir?

Because Focus+TL is a very effective attack buff.

Two guys, one Cap

I see what you did there; if only I could also unsee it.

Lorrir is probably worth it. Kir Kanos is probably not.

I like Lorrir alot but I haven't played with him yet so take that for what it is worth. I agree with Introverdant that Kir is probably not worth it, I never take evade unless I am going to get shot at, I try not to have that happen often with my interceptors.

Soontir kind of needs survivability buffs more than attack buffs I find. Also I am finding that even with PTL his actions are kind of spoken for. Also the current meta makes target locks that you have to pay an action for pretty meh. Might be good if you have Jendon around to give him a 'free' target lock but then the problem is keeping Jendon close to him for that to be a thing.

Had great success with this:

4 alpha squadron

Omicron group,gunner,fire control system

100pts

Shuttle always dies butt lasts long enough that squints can clean up the rest

15 attack dice in 1 volley is nothing to shake a stick at

How about:

Lt. Lorrir

23

Tetran Cowell

24

Carnor Jax

Ptl

29

Omnicron pilot

Vader

I don't shoehorn it if I have 2 points to spend and I only use the TL action if I have a clear shot with no chance of being shot at. TL and Focus are great at getting all hits....and when you are attacking I believe that is what your goal is.

Just because he has targeting computer it does not mean the player is obligated to use it constantly. Soontir Fel is PS9, which gives him a unique opportunity to almost always move last and see when/if it is safe to take offensive actions rather than defensive. If no one has a shot on him he can TL+focus or even boost/roll+TL+focus at range 1.

Whether you prefer to upgrade him offensively or defensively is of course a matter of personal preference, but it would be ridiculous to say that Soontir Fel somehow cannot make good use of a targeting computer, and at a mere 2 points you aren't exactly making huge sacrifices to get the option in many lists. With the new royal guard title you don't even have to give up the modification slot

Right now I am running a list with Soontir and 2 OGP Buzzsaws. It makes my opponent have to pick his poison so to speak.

Why do people keep trying to shoehorn Targeting Computers on to Soontir?

Because it works. He takes an action, TLs, then gets a free focus. It's deadly!

An upgrade (especially one that requires an action to provide a benefit) that doesn't get used every turn is dead weight advantage given to your opponent. I am constantly finding that I am closing the gap with boosts and barrel rolls + 4 dice with focus is mathematically superior to 3 dice with focus + TL. Soontir with SD + TC is still horribly vulnerable to the curse of the 4 blanks.

Change of plan. How about:

Lt. Lorrir

Gives me 96 points to work with.....which makes me lean towards engine upgrades?

this is mine actually:

Yorr Shuttle / FCS /intel agent / intel agent

Saber / PTL

Saber / PTL

Saber / PTL

everybody at PS 4 so flying is made a lot easier. Your Sabers can now pull off koiograns + 2 actions and still be unstressed. Intel agents to help you deal with opponents with higher PS than your Sabers, so you can still do the whole roll + boost to avoid firing arcs (or better still, boost + roll to force him to overlap, then blast him with your other ships)

I still need to try this out:

Kir Kanos (24)

Stealth Device (3)

Turr Phennir (25)

Push the Limit (3)

Stealth Device (3)

Colonel Jendon (26)

Fire-Control System (2)

Weapons Engineer (3)

Intelligence Agent (1)

Shield Upgrade (4)

Total: 94

With room for two more mods on the interceptors if need be.

This weekend I used

OGP, vader, engine

Soontir, shield, TC, PTL

Canor Jax, shield, PTL

Fun to fly.

I had 3 games with a shuttle/Int list last night and quite liked the combo, this is what I ran:-

Royal Guard Pilot + PtL x 3

OGP shuttle + Vader

PS 4 rebel builds are quite popular in my local group so I'm finding PS 6 royal guards to be really effective, the shuttle did a cracking job at mopping up ships the Ints did not quite manage to drop in the first pass. I tended to use Vader to put an early crit on things like Wedge hoping to get a result that limits the effectiveness of that ship.

I've got a tourney on Saturday and I think I'll run the above list, I'll let you know how it does.
