Who are you?

By Kai den Gnosis, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I enjoyed reading all the cool teams talked about in a previous thread, but let's face it, as a player it's all about you. I'm curious to see what this community has chosen as to who they would be in the Star Wars universe for the ideas, and even more for what themes and aspects of Star Wars we want to explore. So who are you ... and why?

My character is Kai-den Gnosis, a Archeologist/Force Sensitive Exile who was cloistered away in a university in the outer rim by his ex-imperial Father who wanted to hide his bookish force sensitive son. It is Kai-den's belief that a single species seeded the galaxy which accounts for the similarities of all species and the use of the common tongue, Basic. He has begun to have dreams of being contacted by one of these progenitors who suggests that they may have been the founders of the force tradition. Having convinced the party of the treasure that would come from finding a progenitor tomb, he seeks the keys to it's location.

My character is Ronin Kaal.

I'm still developing his character but here's what I've got so far:

Ronin grew up on Alderaan and, like many from the peaceful planet he joined the Empire as a pilot. He respects strong leadership over spineless beaurocrasy, so had no objection to the Empire which was voted for by those more interested in politics. But he is not a mindless drone and would have never served Palpatine if he knew the truth. Much of his time was spent pirate hunting, but on one occasion he was shot down during a raid on a pirate base. He spent a couple of years surviving in the wild, carrying out lone guerrilla actions against the pirate settlements until the Empire arrives. Rewarding him for his actions, Ronin is given the honour of being stationed on the Death Star.

Few months later the Death Star blew up Alderaan. When the Millennium Falcon arrived on the Death Star, Ronin determined he would sneak aboard and hide. He got away with it, and waited for the right moment to disembark on Yavin where he stole a Y-Wing and headed for a safe place to rest and prepare to fight back.

He seeks vengeance on the Empire, but refuses to join the Rebellion and finds the idea of being a pirate distasteful. So he hires out his services to rescue the innocent, take out the tyrannical and will accept any job which allows him to fight against the Empire. Ronin prefers the simplicity of silently snapping necks, cutting throats and setting traps. He suffers from Post Traumatic Stress and is likely to become even more sinister and deadly against the Empire, the sight of whom can turn him from a calculating killer into a berzerk brawler.

Truth be told, he believes he is a dead man walking and will one day die an honourable death upon a mountain of Empire corpses.

Edit: and he fights alone. There are "good people" who he feels can be trusted, but he seeks solitude and isolation and only accept help when necessary.

Snuck aboard the Falcon to get off the Death Star? You must have been covered in wookie hair. Lol. What career/specialization?

Not too difficult when the crew were chasing Stormtroopers around the station.

Career is where it get's tricky. I've just started with EoE, so haven't yet got my head around it yet. His guerrilla style, and earlier two years wilderness survival makes Survivalist a good choice for specialization.

Edit: he needs to be a Rambo/Riddick type of character with piloting skills.

I pursued the idea of a Jedi archeologist as I can't think of anything more useful in the eventual restoration of the Jedi. Everyone in my group, other than myself, are bounty hunters. It seems to be more popular than Hired Guns.

I usually GM most of the games I play, so do not get to play often. I'm just finishing running Beyond the Rim and it turns out one of the players (also the owner of the FLGS where we play) is offering to run a game next. So I have made a character to play possibly. Still trying out concepts so it may change.

Render (RN-DR)

He's a R2 droid reprogrammed for demolotion work. I've made him as a hired gun/demolitionist. I plan to cause as much mayhem to bad guys as possible as my buddy intends to run his game during the Dark Times.

Since I normally GM, I am very happy to play in my Meeup.com group.

I play Tikaro "Tiko" Fate. A doctor who has been framed for a load of murders on Eriadu after helping out the Tarkins, a well known noble family within the city.

Although he does not know it yet, he has a sort of unconscious luck that may or may not be an affinity with the force.

Deve Sunstriker, Human Technician. He is based on the character I played in Star Wars Galaxies.

***

Background: Deve Sunstriker grew up on the world of Socorro, a haven of smugglers and ship modders. He is naturally drawn to technology in all forms—particularly anything that represents raw power such as blaster weapons and engines. He has no specific interest in either upholding or defying the law and is indifferent to the outlaw life common on his homeworld. Nevertheless, impulsive decisions made in his own self-interest have landed him in hot water.

Deve apprenticed under Sadako Dyson, a shipyard owner in the capital city of Vakeyya where he learned his trade. Having no particular interest in serving out the full length of his indenture and troubled by her deviant advances, he left Sadako without hesitation and hopped aboard the first freighter in need of a full-time mechanic once he felt confident enough in his own skills.

Deve is highly individualistic, borderline objectivist, and can be both logical and zealous to a fault, often coming across as tactless or selfish. He has a natural aptitude for understanding computers and mechanical devices of all sorts from the most rudimentary of power converters to advanced droid circuitry. His piloting skills are self-taught, a necessity to fully test his repairs and “shake out the bugs” in a newly upgraded propulsion system. Deve doesn’t mind the occasional joy ride, especially if someone else is paying for the power cells.

Obligation (betrayal): Deve has no regrets about leaving his homeworld or his apprenticeship but he can’t help but think that at some point Sadako will track him down. What she’ll do at that point is anybody’s guess.

With the help of the Pykes, Deve’s current whereabouts and activities have been obscured—put “off the radar” so to speak. However, a recent and rather unfortunate set of circumstances escalated by his group's former bounty hunter on The Wheel landed him in criminal detention for a short period of time and he's worried that his current whereabouts have been broadcast on the HoloNet. Hopefully, this trip to Cholganna will evade any pursuit by Sadako.

Motivation: Deve is an unapologetic capitalist and obsesses over the individual’s right to [insert rant here]. He sees capitalism as a means to becoming an independent weaponsmith and his weapons as a means for others to achieve their own freedoms and desires.

Roland Brellia, a Human Freelance Trader Pilot from Loronar. Obligation is paid off. (It was owed to the black market ship dealer he and the other original crewmembers got the ship from by the party helping hijack a Nebulon-B for the dealer) Started out strictly neutral but has begun to favor the Alliance due to some runins with Imperials during the party's adventures.

I play Kriegiss Tarkorr, a human Bounty Hunter (Assassin/Gadgeteer)

Mechanically, I specialize in having a significant defenses (Defensive Rating, High Soak, Dodge) and offensively, in mowing down enemies with my Heavy blaster rifle on autofire. Secondarily, I carry a stun carbine for capturing bounties alive and a vibroknife for dispatching enemies silently.

Physical Features: Kriegiss has a long scar across his right cheek from his eyebrow to his nose from his second hunt.
Kriegiss has a tattoo of an Arkanian Dragon on his right bicep, symbolizing his commitment to being faster than his opponents.
Kriegiss is 24 years old, 6'4 tall with a muscular build. He has black hair and blue eyes.

Brawn 3 (Kriegiss is strong and tough, but not the strongest or toughest guy out there)
Agility 4 [3+1 from Dedication] (Kriegiss has excellent hand-eye coordination and is a very good shot)
Intellect 3 (Kriegiss has had no formal education, but is very logical and learns things easily)
Cunning 2 (Kriegiss is not much of a liar, nor does he often use tricks in combat, save for stealth)
Willpower 3 (Kriegiss is very strong willed, dedicated, and self-disciplined, if stubborn at times)
Presence 2 (Kriegiss has no great power with words to influence people).

Skills

Athletics (1), Brawl (1), Coercion (1), Gunnery (1), Melee (1), Perception (1), Ranged-Heavy (2), Resilience (1), Stealth (1), Vigilance (1).

Talents

Armor Master -When Wearing Armor, Increase total Soak by one.
Dedication (1) -Add 1 to 1 Characteristic (Max value 6).
Dodge (2) -Take strain up to ranks as an incidental and upgrade difficulty of incoming attack by same #.
Intimidating (1) -Take strain up to ranks as an incidental and decrease or upgrade the difficulty of a coercion check.
Jury Rigged (1) -Character’s weapon or armor gains one permanent improvement so long as in use.
Lethal Blows (1) -Add +10 per rank to Critical hit rolls.
Natural Enforcer-Once per session, the character may reroll any one coercion or streetwise check.
Quick Draw -May Draw and item once per turn as an incidental.
Quick Strike (1) -Add boost dice equal to ranks against targets that have not acted yet.
Stalker (1) -Add boost dice equal to ranks to stealth and coordination checks.
Tinkerer (1) -Add one hard point to a number of items equal to ranks in tinkerer.
Toughened (1) -The character increases his wound threshold by two per rank in toughened.

Kriegiss strikes first and last and hopefully his mark is dead before he’s even spotted. If he is spotted, he is good at making himself a difficult target to hit.

Background

Kriegiss is an independent bounty hunter, and the descendant of a line of independent bounty hunters. His family have given him the training and tools necessary to succeed, but in return they expect great things of him. Failure is not tolerated.

Unlike most bounty hunters, Tarkorr family is rather picky about what contracts they take. They generally only take contracts that meet their harsh sense of justice, allowing them to kill their marks on sight. As ruthless as it seems, these targets are usually dangerous criminals such as murderers, gangsters, or even rogue bounty hunters that have stepped over the line into lawlessness. The Tarkorr family have a proud and patronizing view of society in general, seeing themselves as the strong that protect the weak. Kriegiss was raised to believe bounty hunting is a part of the natural order of things—society’s check against the most dangerous agents of chaos. Bounty Hunters sometimes have a bad reputation, but that’s only because the weak do not understand that their lifestyle is upheld by the strong, and the ugly reality of bounty hunting is a necessity that allows them to live their lives in ignorance of nature of evil.

Motivation: Ambition-Fame, Ambition-Greed

Kriegiss’ ambition is to become the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy—to rival names like Bossk, Dengar, and even Boba Fett. He wants to be famous, but infamy will do. So long as his is a name known and feared throughout the galaxy.

Though money itself means little to him, the ability to purchase the gear he wants to maximize his potential does. This lends a mercenary quality to his dealings. Though he cares about his reputation foremost, credits are a strong secondary motivation.

Obligation: Dutybound, Obsession

Kriegiss was outfitted as a bounty hunter by his family, but in return, they expect great things from him. He is expected to make a name for himself bounty hunting, and to follow the Bounty Hunter's Code.

Kriegiss is obsessed with perfecting himself as combatant and a bounty hunter. He wants the best gear that money can buy and to hone his skills to where he is always faster than his opponents.

Oh. You're the GM, then.
