May 2014 for the Core rulebook?

By Donovan Morningfire, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Just got back from a visit to the FLGS, and the owner included a copy of the April 2014 Game Trade Magazine.

Checking out the FFG portion, it's got teh AoR Core Rulebook and GM's Kit listed as being scheduled to ship in May 2014. Granted, it could be the final week in May, but from what info he's got, they should have the Beginner Box on shelves in a couple weeks, so could very well be mid-May that we see the corebook.

So it looks like two of the concerns from the EotE product line, those being too long of a lead time between the EotE Beginner Box and core rulebook release dates and having the AoR Beta come out within a couple months of the EotE core rulebook, have been addressed, so that's good. Those of us that are planning on snagging the F&D Beta rulebook will have at least a few months to soak in the Age of Rebellion goodness.

Naturally, this is subject to change if circumstances warrant.

If that's correct, I wonder if it might actually hurt sales of the Beginner game to release them too close to one another.

In most cases of an introductory box set, there's at least a month lead time between the two.

And as has been mentioned in several threads, the Beginner Box is aimed at folks that aren't already familiar with FFG's Star Wars RPG. In short, folks like you and me aren't the target audience, and never were. This isn't the classic D&D Red Box that could be used as a fully self-contained RPG, but a lead-in to get folks that would balk at a $60 rulebook to instead drop half that on a ready-to-play game that the buyer can simply gather a group of friends to try out.

Then again, seeing as how the Beginner Box includes a $15 dice set, for some folks that alone makes it worth it as the maps, tokens, and what-not are easily worth another $15 to them.

Doubt it. Imgrabing the beginner simply for the pregens, dice and maps. Its also good to have the quck rule books aroind for players to use while you hold on to the core..

Remember, the EotE core rulebook was delayed originally. It came out in July instead of the original launch month, which might have been May.

It's very possible it is in time for May. It wouldn't surprise me seeing as the brunt of the playtesting was done in EotE. There really wasn't too much errata for the AoR beta.

Either way I can't wait. AoR has become really exciting for me in the past week since my game group have gone all in with an AoR campaign using brand new characters.

A fresh start and once the beginner game is released there will be more material to incorporate into the campaign I have running, followed by the Core Rulebook/GM screen adventures.

I'd expect the AoR CRB in May and then the GM screen in June. That finishes out Q2 and is line with what they have on the upcoming section.

Looking forward to an update on Q3 with F&D and maybe an EoE supp slipped in for July.

I'm expecting the Beginner on early Q with the book in late/end of Q. That seems to be how EoE was released, though hearing that there was a delay makes sense.

As for F&D, I agree with Q3.

I would expect the CRB and GM kit to be released at the same time, it's how it was done for EotE. I would also expect the book before July, because as someone mentioned earlier, all the play testing for the vast majority of the RULES has been done for over a year, which means there will be less turn-around time for the next crb. IMO.

Normally, the GM kit comes two weeks later for most FFG RPGs. EOTE is the outlier.

EoE GM kit didn't introduce new rules though. AoR's is going to. I guess we shall see if that's a consideration or not.

Not strictly true: the EotE GM kit included rules for leveling up Nemeses.

That has not been my experience with the lines of WH40k games.

It would seem silly to release them separately. At least inconvenient for me.

Anyway, I'm hoping for sooner than later, so May would be great, but I won't really be playing until September anyway.

Well my copy's are pre-ordered. Core and BB. I'll most likely get the GM kit when it pops too.

The GM's Kit has already been announced, so it'll likely be released alongside the CRB or shortly thereafter.

I have everything released for EotE so far, including 3 sets of dice. This beginner box may not be targeting me as a customer, but I will be buying it strictly for the adventure module and pre-gen characters. Everything else is just icing. The same goes for the GM kit (just want the adventure)...and the sooner the core book follows, the better (IMHO).

Plus, the more product they sell, the more likely they are to keep producing content in the future...I'm still bummed about the (pretty much) death of WFRP3rd...

If they are going to hit a May release, it better get on the boat soon.

I'm figuring it'll be towards the end of May, as the bulk of FFG's products have been hitting shelves at the end of the month they're released in.

F&D Beta will probably be around August as that is GenCon and we all know how much RPG developers love GenCon. Now as for the other stuff it will be here as time marches on I am sure. I am hoping to hook into a Beta book when DragonCon hits a few weeks later. As for the core rules I am yes and Beginner box just for the dice and maps alone I would buy it. Now whether or not it is on release date is going to be a question of income when the time hits. I now know who you are Donovan thanks to Order 66.

Even with an end of May release, they'd better shake a leg. The boat has been 3 weeks (usually) and shipping has been about 10 days - so if it doesn't make the jump to the boat ASAP, we'll miss next month.

If Force and Destiny does not come out on May the 4th, I'll be greatly disappointed.

Seeing as how the 5th in 2015 will be a Monday, and releases have been on a Friday towards the end of the month, get ready for disappointment.

Still at the factory. I'm expecting this at the end of June.

If it shipped tomorrow:

- 3 to 4 weeks on the boat

- 1 week to get it to the stores.

Granted that is beginning of June, BUT it isn't on the boat yet. I'll give FFG a 3 week buffer for that to occur.

It's on boat now. WOOT!!!!
