Pegasus Gaming Store Championships - Results

By DarkFather, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hi all;

We just finished out LGS's Store Championships. It was a great day at the shop today. All competitors were great to play against and all games seemed to go off without any major hitches. It was a great 'test run' for when the shop does it's Regionals on the 14th June.

While we were expecting 9 players (locals at least) we ended up with 8 players total. Games were 75 minutes each, we played 3 Swiss Rounds, with no cuts.

Players and their lists were...

Round one saw the following pairings...

Chris vs Luke - Chris got the full win (5 Points).

Dan vs Aiden - Dan got the full win (5 Points).

Mark vs Peter - Mark got a Modified Win (3 Points).

Me vs Nick - Now Nicholas is my arch-nemesis for X-wing. Always able to outmanoeuvre me, rolls better than I do at any given time, and is just an all-round better player, really. Our game started with my ships moving slowly (2 forwards on the whole) and a 1 forward for the Shuttle. Second turn saw the first shots fired in anger, and I managed to dodge like a Dark Jedi Master. I outmanoeuvered his Turr Phennir and was able to take him down. An early semi-victory for me. Eventually he took down the 2 easiest targets in my squad, the 2x Academy Pilots, but it wasn't enough. I focused fire on Soontir and he soon went the way of his Turr. When time was called, he had killed 24 points of mine, and I had destroyed 60 points of his. Defeating him by more than 33 points handed me my first (and most worried about) Full Win. (5 points).

Round two saw the following pairings...

Chris vs Dan - Chris got the Full win (5 Points)

Aiden vs Peter - Peter got the Full win (5 Points),

Luke vs Nick - Nick for the Full win (5 Points).

Me vs Mark - Mark would have to be 'that' player. That guy that everyone loves to play against. He is easy going, doesn't seem to have a bad bone in his body (at the gaming table). Loves to chat while playing, enjoys pretty much EVERY social aspect of gaming in general. A complete pleasure to game against. But that also makes his total and crushing defeat at my hands, a kind of bad experience. My defense dice were ablaze for this game. In total, Mark managed a poultry 1 damage on Dark Curse for the entire game. I added DC's extra damage when I managed to barely hit an Asteroid. The rest of the game, unfortunately, was a turkey-shoot. His Hawks went down early to concentrated fire, and the X-wings were picked off at my leisure. Our game ended with over 15 minutes to spare. My second Full Win for the day (5 Points).

Round three (the final round we found out halfway through the game - we are still a 'learning store/meta and no-one really cared when we were told, we were having fun) saw the following pairings...

Luke vs Aiden - Aiden got the Full win (5 Points).

Nick vs Peter - Nick got the Full win (5 Points).

Dan vs Mark - Dan got the Full win (5 Points).

Me vs Chris - Chris has only been playing X-wing for something like 5 games by the time our match came around. He comes from a board game/card game background as a rule. But today he tried his hand at some miniatures. Obviously, he was doing as well as I was, up to this point, with both of us on 10 points, both undefeated. Also both with not-killed Turr's. This had to be rectified, one way or the other. Asteroids were placed in a fashion to hurt my Shuttle's movement, but as it turned out, it did nothing to halt the lumbering beast that had so far been undamaged. Through whatever reasons, I managed to outmanoeuvre Chris's Turr and was able to gun him down early in the game. Backstabber was proving to be more of a problem however. Eventually Soontir, with a trail of Academy Pilots being led by Dark Curse chasing him down, managed to do what no-one else was able to do all day, and killed the Shuttle. This was turning out to be a close game, 1 Shuttle down for me, and Turr Phennir down for him. Soontir was proving to be a nightmare to kill, so I changed tactics and chased down night Beast and eventually tag-teamed with Turr and an Academy Pilot, and dispatched the Character TIE. At end of time, the scores were 32 Points lost for me, and 46 lost for Chris. Giving me a Modified Win (3 Points).

The final standings (after taking SOS into account) were...

Me - 13 Points (SC Winner).

Chris - 10 Points.

Dan - 10 Points.

Nicholas - 10 Points.

Aiden - 5 Points.

Peter - 3 Points.

Luke - 0 Points.

It was a great day, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves all the way through. A couple of rules queries, but on the whole, nothing that spoiled or ruined any of the games. A call out and Thanks to Pegasus Gaming, and Graham Cooper for hosting the SC (and on June 14 the Regionals O.o).

Here are some random pics of the day, and my pride and joys, my precious's...

Thanks go out to Luke for the pics taken during the last round games. Sorry I didn't get any others or video. I wanted too, but was a tad busy.

Cheers

I am absolutely amazed by the lists. A lot of HWK and squints, no swarm or named lists. Sounds like it was a blast.

Apologies for the delayed reply.

Yes it was an awesome day. I was very surprised, and excited, to see so many Imperial lists. As a rule, locally, there are way more Rebel players. I can't wait for the Regionals. Will be interesting to see how it goes, and what extra people turn up.

But for now... It's time to play with my new Aces toys. I have been strict on myself for the past 2 weeks, playing nothing but the list I used at the SC. Now it's time for some different sort of fun and shenanigans.

Cheers

is it just me or is Kath Scarlet one of the best imperial pilots?

Just depends what you need done. I would vote for howlrunner for synergy and Vader for pure functionality. I feel Kath Scarlet is kind of the anti - imperial firespray, where Fett is the anti-rebellion. Krassis seems to be the anti - large base firespray, but I like them all.
