Speed, Strength, Stamina - 3 ship Rebel Build

By Papamambo, in X-Wing

I know 3 ship builds aren't popular, as it tends to leave a lot of eggs in one basket, but I thought I'd give this one a try to see how it works out..

A-Wing - Tycho Celchu (26)

- Push The Limit (3)

B-Wing - Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

- Advanced Sensors (3)

- Ion Cannon (3)

- Engine Upgrade (4)

X-Wing - Wedge Antilles (29)

- Push the Limit (3)

- Stealth Device (3)

- R2-F2 (3)

Total - 99 points

Tycho loves him some PTL, the Blue is a slippery fish that can use the boost action or can use advanced sensors to get in or out of arcs, and Wedge should be nigh impossible to hit with an extra 2 agility that R2-F2 and Stealth give him. With PTL, he has some other options open to him as well.

Thoughts??

Test it and see how it fairs against obvious tournament lists, Tie Swarm and dual Falcon. If you can keep wedge alive.

I personally dont like stealth device. It will eventually fail and could eventually fail sooner rather then later when you want it to.

Your also using one of your actions with wedge for defense when he wants to be target locking focus.

That's just my thoughts on it

I would think that a defensive list like this would fair well in a casual game, but not do much in timed play.

I don't like the Blue. At PS2, you're not going to know for certain if you're actually getting out of people's arcs or flying right into them.

I'd take the SD and R2 off Wedge. I get what you're going for. 4 Def dice is great, but you're likely to not have a Focus since you shoot first, which means you'll be lucky to roll 2 evades, which is easily countered (especially if you face another Wedge). With remaining points, I 'might' go Ten Numb with Autoblaster and Marksmanship.

I dont' really see what you've added to the list to make it more defendable than say Rookie Green w/ PTL and Blue. Yeah, you've put a SD and R2F2 and PTL on Wedge... but now he's F+R2 for defense, and being predictable to get rid of his stress since he doesn't have R2. So you're going to have your opponent lining up pretty shots on him, even though he moves last. And since he doesn't have any EU or BR, he can't even get out of the way afterwards. He'll die pretty much just as fast as normal, and not do any additional damage.

Meanwhile, Tycho is a defensive beast as usual... but you haven't done anything to make him better than a standard Green w/ PTL... Which is the default A wing...

And then you have a blue that yeah, can BR, or Boost before or after his action... but being PS2, it's not going to help that much. And then he doesn't have any true defensive talents.

I would try something like Ninja Ibby and Luke w/ EU + PTL + R2 if you want to get defensive with a 3 rebel list.

Ibby (28)

HU (3)

Elusivness (3)

SJ (4)

Luke (28)

PTL (3)

EU (4)

R2 (1)

Green (19)

PTL (3)

HU (3)

With this list, you have the same XAB that you started with. But instead of just gimping yourself, you've gone full out defensive. The Green is just as hard to kill as Tycho was, but has an extra hit point, making him harder to kill. Luke is iniately harder to kill than Wedge, and its coupled with PTL (+R2) and an EU so he can boost out of arcs, making use of his high PS to see where most people are going to be. And then Ibby makes use of her pseudo high PS to BR when needed, and F when not. With Elusiveness, she can negate a single hit 50% of the time. And with SJ, you force your opponent to either take a focus or lose an attack result. Against swarms, this is a HUGE damage save... likewise against mobile squads. It really doesn't benefit much against XXXX or XXBB lists too much, but they're typically lower PS, so you can use your BR to get out of the way of them. And then she has an extra hull as well to keep her alive even longer. Oh, and did I mention that she can reroll her evade die, which makes her that much more elusive to kill?
