Force Power Move Crit

By Jamwes, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Last night our force user rolled a Discipline check on his Move power and came back with a ton of advantages. Which he then asked, can I buy a crit? We let him spend all of his advantages on a crit and I said I'd ask the board to see what others did.

Do GMs out there let crits happen with Move? If so, Triumph only or can you buy with advantages? How many advantages would a crit cost?

If he is happy with using his massive amount of advantages on a crit, then why not? Since there is no crit rating for move, it might be more accurate to use only a triumph, but there's really no harm in using a load of advantages to do the same.

This hasn't come up on my game, but I absolutely would let him activate a crit with 4 or more advantages.

4 sounds like a good number.

4 was a number we talked about, but brawl is 5. Should throwing rocks with your mind be more likely to crit than a kick to ye olde happy sack?

My group generally uses the improvised weapon crit ratings (which is 5) when using Force Move, regardless of silhouette size.

5 is a good number too. I'd stick with that, given what unarmed is. It's pretty hard to argue with that, honestly.

5 sounds like a good baseline if nothing is specified. Good point about the improvised weapon crit rating.

Technically you can't crit with a hurled object using the Move power, since there's no crit rating listed, much like how a PC can't pull off a crit when attacking with a stun grenade (which lists NA in the Crit column).

But I'd say using 5 Advantage as per the rules for improvised weapons is a fair house rule. Of course, depending on the size of the object being thrown, a critical injury's going to be a moot point. Anything Silhouette 2 or bigger will pretty much take down most opponents in a single go.

5 is fair. While the power doesn't have a critical rating, it differs from things like stun grenades which cannot crit (I believe this has to do with stun damage for than the weapon). 5 is IIRC also used for unarmed combat, which also doesn't have a crit in and of itself.

I hadn't thought about looking at the improvised weapon rating. I'll bring 5 up to my GM. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would treat using Force Move as an attack as using an Improvised Weapon as far as crit rating. In most cases that is what it will be anyway.
