Lando can now Die..

By Kager, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I purchased Jewel of Yavin today (beautiful artwork) and Lando has officially been given stats. My questions is, what do you think of the stats given to lando and do you plan to incorporate him in your campaign at all?

Personally I was surprised he wasn't provided any skills in Piloting...

I haven't seen the book yet, but He doesn't have piloting? He owned the Falcon before Han, not to mention successfully navigated it through the superstructure of the Death Star. That doesn't even get into his activities in books and the EU.

I don't care what the stats say, he has piloting, and a fair amount of it.

I don't have the book yet, but I totally plan to incorporate Lando into my games. I just never plan on putting the main characters into a position where they would get killed. (Easy enough)

I too am surprised he has no piloting skill.

(Although, we only see him piloting at the Battle of Endor, and maybe Nien Nunb was doing most of it, so I can live with the lack of a skill)

I want to get that book to understand (or try to) developers points of view about how to interpretate things and characters from canonic stories.

I know that in EU Lando does a lot of things but in canon sources (only Empire Strike Back and Return of the Jedi) we only see Lando assisting the pilots (Chewbacca and Snu... the sullustan XD) so maybe people from FFG have considered that he don't have piloting. I'm really want to see that book :D

Oh and yes, illustrations from all the books are awesome and just beautiful!

Lando is not Han Solo.

He's competent enough to fly a ship, but he isn't a pilot on par with Han, Luke, or Wedge. In the SW EU, piloting a ship isn't all that unusual. Millions upon millions of people in the galaxy steer ships around, but the real pilots are the people who have skills beyond the norm. And that isn't really Lando. In Empire he is described as a gambler, a card player, and a scoundrel, but he sure isn't an ace pilot.

Lando is a man of Presence and Cunning.

I'm actually dying for some details on JoY. I keep checking these forums for tidbits (i.e. new ships or weapons), and it's like a complete information black out.

Major reason why I hate canon characters being statted: lots of arguing about whether the stats are "right" or "wrong" and typically doesn't say at what point of the career the stats are meant to reflect.

The text describing Lando explicitly states that these stats are just for the story, and that "a full profile of Lando Calrissian is beyond the scope of The Jewel of Yavin."

If you asked for specific things, I'm sure the handful of people who have theirs would be willing to help you out. But I'd imagine the reason there's less of a divulgence of information compared to say, when Dangerous Covenants came out, is because it's in a contained adventure as opposed to just flat stacks of information. So they're trying to be more careful not to spoil anything.

Fascinating. I actually kind of like that...

Fair point. Really, I'd just like to know what, if any, new vehicles, weapons, and species are in JoY as it'll be well over a week before I get mine. If someone doesn't mind, I'd love a PM with some information--maybe even some details on Lando's stats as is being discussed here.

Me too! Of course I don't see why not having stats is preventing anyone from having PCs kill off major characters in their games.

Yep, more than the "right vision" I like those characters, as I said because this helps me a lot to understand developers game concept and ideas. Just a good reference about FFG point of view but not necessarely the right one :D

The good point of having official stats is the thing I mentioned previously plus, if you don't like, just change it! Two Advantages with just one roll ;)

The problem here is that the new gear is strewn throughout the book, not in charts or sections. There's a paragraph here, a new gun in a minion's equipment there...you get the picture. I'm not enough of an expert to declare what's new and what's not, you guys have me beat in that expertise.

I must be the only person who doesn't like to hear everything in a new book before I read it myself. :)

I mostly want to see the main characters stats as a reference point for PC's and NPC's. Lando is the cunning swindler, so its a good measuring stick for PC's and NPC's going for the same thing.

That is such a pain.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Well, if anyone wants to PM me Lando's stats at the very least, that should get me through the week! :D:P

Was about to post suggesting that Lando's stats are just for in reference to his role in the book.

I've seen this sort of thing before, particularly from Green Ronin and Pinnacle in them listing an NPC with just enough information/stats to reflect how they tie into the adventure. It was WEG and WotC that tried to cover every little thing that a given iconic character had accomplished. In WEG's case it lead to badly bloated stat blocks (there was no way that Luke in WEG could have been anything close to a starting character) and WotC having to pick & choose due to the restrictions of a level-based system and only so many skill points/ranks and feat slots to work with.

So good to know that FFG is willing to avoid the "holistic portrayal" of high profile NPCs, at least for the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if we do eventually see a "who's who" NPC sourcebook with the Heroes of Yavin (particularly once Force & Destiny is out so that Luke, Obi-Wan, and Yoda can get the proper treatment), but that's a ways off.

I'd like to see Lando's stats simply to know how they handled depicting his character. Would be nice to use as a guideline if I want to go about incorporating known characters into a campaign.

This is my first RPG I've dealt with so I didn't know it was done before, but I really like the idea of using different stat blocks to depict a "persona" of a particular character.

I'd be more interested in some Gambler specific tidbits or new talents myself.

Hell yeah, anyone who flies the equivalent of a space-truck through the plumbing of a space station is definately not just using 'green dice' :)

I get to pick up my copy in a little over 12 hours. :)

I still haven't heard anything from Miniature Market. My order is labeled as "Complete", rather than "Shipped", which is what all previous orders have been labeled, so I'm getting a little concerned. What's worse, they won't answer their help line, nor reply to the message I've sent them.

They make it pretty clear for Lando, Lobot et al, that "these stats are just for the purposes of this adventure. It's not meant to be a complete workup for exactly who they are."

Simon Fix - I have the same concerns. I'll never order from them again. Dangerous Covenants was 2 weeks late because of their move, and now they have had Jewel of Yavin listed as a "New Arrival" all day, and still have not processed my pre-order which was placed and paid back in Feb. They have also not answered my inquiries.
