X-Wing Dice rolling app

By Audio Weasel, in X-Wing

Out of curiosity, has anyone used it? If so, do you use it regularly? I honestly don't see myself using an app instead of real dice, but was wondering how the experience was.

I have the same feeling towards using an app to roll dice. If they had a squad builder in it, I would definitely be a customer.

I bought it - It's decent for a dice roller app - I can see using it in the RPG more than X-Wing (it covers both, plus regular polyhedrals). The addition of flavor sound effects and backgrounds help (droid sounds or blaster sounds when rolling).

$5 is a bit pricey, but then look at the cost of the dice and this has unlimited dice...

I used it until I decided to buy another starter kit. It's good, but it cannot compete with real dices and the feeling.

I downloaded the app out of curiosity. I like how you can "customize" the dice screen, but I probably wouldn't use it in a tournament.

I typically use it if I'm playing at night, and don't want to make too much noise.

I bought it when it first came out, but I don't use it competitively. For tournaments I prefer to roll my own dice. Also, when I roll badly, I can blame myself; not some randomizer program.

It also has the dice for the role-playing game, which is a bonus.

I've got it, but used it mostly for the RPG before the stand-alone dice packs came out. It's ok in a pinch, but no substitute for dice in X-Wing. For the RPG, being able to pre-build the dice pools for NPCs is kind of useful, though.

I used it when I played the edge of the empire beta, before they released the dice for it. Then, when I started playing x wing, I discovered that I already had digital dice! Of course, once I got dice for each game, the app sat useless in my phone. It's fun and has cool Star Wars sound effects though.

It really isn't good for tourney play. Just too slow.

I don't really see the value of the app for X-Wing.

Dice-roller apps aren't bad if you are traveling and need some dice on the fly, but when you are moving around the rest of your X-Wing stuff the dice are the least of your problems. Besides, for a (at least partially) dice game throwing the dice yourself is part of the fun. ;)

The rest of the features you get for free in other apps (though don't know how specific the RPG dice are)

Given the threads about some 3rd party templates deviating about a mm from the original, I kind of wonder if any one felt the need to test if the dice app actually uses a half-way decent random number generator with a distribution that approximates that of a standard die.

Don't have it. Wasn't going to get it. But from some of the comments I think I like it.

$5 for unlimited dice that can be used with both X-Wing and RPG, as well as regular dice types, sounds like a bargain. Saves carrying around lots of dice, and possibly losing some.

Plus, there isn't that awkward moment when your dice rolls onto a miniature base without going flat. You and your opponent then have a Mexican standoff where you wonder whether to go with the most visible result that's showing or re-roll.

What about the time you roll the dice a little too enthusiastically and find yourself chasing after it as it rolls on the floor and under a cupboard.

Good times.

But I think the app sounds better.
