Munitions Failsafe and Lt. Blout

By mlbrogueone, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I apologize in advance if it's too early to discuss cards that haven't actually been released yet, but here goes...

Lt. Blout's ability is "When attacking, the defender is is hit by your attack, even if he does not suffer any damage."

Munitions Failsafe reads "When attacking with a secondary weapon that instructs you to discard it to perform the attack, do not discard it unless the attack hits."

So then would it make any sense to use MF on Lt. Blout? I mean, if all of his attacks "hit" even if they might do zero damage, then that cancels the point of MF.

Would it have been better if MF read "... do not discard it unless the attack does damage."?

So then would it make any sense to use MF on Lt. Blout?

No, it's a waste of points on the Lt, because he'll never be able to make use of that card as it's currently written.

It's completely possible that this is exactly how they mean for it to work though.

I suppose, I mean if not properly worded it could give Blout the ability to "reuse" assault missles an infinite number of times so it's probably better the way it is written.

I suppose one can always use a non Blout Z-95.

Or non-Blount anything else that can carry a missile or torpedo. :D

It's obviously intended to work that way. If not, Blount could use Ion Pulse Missiles as an extra effective ion cannon, every turn.

EDIT: Yeah, Assault too.

No, no sense at all.

Lt. Blout's ability means munitions failsafe never activates as he always hits. Waste of points.

If I'm understanding the train of thought here then Lt Blount's innate ability will cause an Ion Pulse Missile attack to result in 1 hit (maybe 1 damage, maybe not) and 2 ion tokens regardless of the defense roll?

Ion Pulse Missile reads "If this attack hits, the defenders suffers 1 damage and receives 2 ion tokens, then cancel ALL dice results."

Correct. I can't think of any reason you'd even need to bother with the dice for this.

Not exactly. There is always one point of damage. No "maybe".

The target Klivian with R7 may want to spend a TL to force rerolls of attack dice to discard stress.

Would you actually need to roll the dice for this? Seems like the outcome is just as predetermined.

You are right. No need to roll dice.
