A-Wing Test Pilot Title

By TheGreedyMerchant, in X-Wing

After finally flying the a-wing for the first time (and doing really well with it) I got to thinking about what two expert talents I would put on my green squad pilots. I love push the limit. I don't really know what other talent would go well with it other than maybe veteran instincts.

What combination of two expert talents would you use on your a-wing pilots (Assuming they already have one expert talent, sorry Arvel and prototype pilot not talking about you two).

I want to play with Expose and Opportunist (not at the same time). Being able to up the damage potential ameliorates the A-Wings biggest weakness, and with a team of them, it should be possible to arrange enough situations where you have a shot and they don't have a return shot to make it worthwhile.

Super stoked to play PTL + Expose. For 24 points, you have an A wing, that's just as deadly as an X wing when it wants to be, or as tanky as an A wing when it wants to be... Not to mention always as maneuverable as an A wing.

I also want to try PTL + DD on Tycho as I think hilarity will ensue.

Sadly, I'm still of the opinion that PTL should be on (almost) every A wing, so it's really more of a "what do you want to do with your second EPT" ... Others that I'll probably try at some point will be VI, Opp (though I'm pretty sure Exp will be better overall... though Opp would probably be great in the beginning of the game), and Wingman (especially in sets of 2).

Adrenaline rush would't be terrible.

Tycho

+Chardaan Refit

+Push the Limit

+A-wing Test Pilot

+Expert Handling

Makes Tycho basically an interceptor, now that he can also equip Expert Handling (basically) for free. He can dance out of arc with no penalty, and stay close to maintain 3 attack.

Which is why stress is going to be so important; to move the meta away from seeing PTL as an auto include.

Meh, I'm less concerned about it than I originally thought. A wings, like interceptors, fly best outside of others arcs, so there won't be many options to use the flechette torps or the R2-D3 droid. Plus, if I happen to fly into arc and you choose to double stress me, the A wing can bolt out of there with 5 straights clearing stress... While my B wings and X wings that you could have stressed out, will have their full dial open to them.

I agree that the stress stuff is partially to discourage PTL in every EPT slot. But I'm rather confident that they gave the A wing a second EPT because PTL will still be the go to for the first EPT. I bet there are going to be lots of mid level players packing stress and anti-stress stuff, but I'm thinking the higher level players won't bother with much of it. Not to say they won't have a torp, or the droid, to prevent that key K turn, but it'll be far from automatic. Always remember with the droid - you stress yourself to hand out a stress - and my A wing can still be unpredictable with said stress. I know exactly where you're going to be with that stress.

And for any counter argument of the top 8 had only 1 PTL (on Wedge none the less) on it at worlds - they also didn't have any A wings (or interceptors).

Or, alternatively, Push The Limit and Wingman . Pair up your A-wings and watch the stress tokens fall harmlessly away...
