Imperial Huge Ships Ideas

By Animewarsdude, in X-Wing

While there has been some discussion on what ships we may get in the new "Huge" scale there hasn't been that much speculation on what features they may have. So what different actions and upgrades do you think the Imperial ships may have to set them apart from their Rebel counterparts?

Some ideas off the top of my head are being more heavily armed perhaps having more hardpoint upgrade slots rather then just more hull. Maybe they could have hangars where you could attach a certain amount of fighters to the ship for say half of their normal squad cost but they are limited to only PS 1-3 and require an action to launch one a turn. Perhaps they even may a tractor beam upgrade that could limit movement or dumps stress on the ship as they struggle with the controls.

Tractor Beam: When beamed ship reveals it's maneuver dial, treat all magnitudes as 1.

Lol!

"Our ships can't repel firepower of that maneuver!"

That'd be nice if you could also target your own ships.

Restock: At the beginning of the combat phase target friendly ship at range 1 may equip one torpedo or missile if able. That ship does not reveal a maneuver dial and skips the perform action step in the next activation phase.

Too "gamey"... makes no sense in the time scale of the game. You do not remotely re-arm ships in combat. You'll need to come up with some sort of "techno-babble" to even justify the logic of this suggestion.

Just sayin'

Okay, let's call it Combat Utility Vehicle, where the Capital ship sends out a small transport to restock fighters in the field.

As seen in TIE-Fighter for instance. :P .

Dual Link firing System: Upon a hit, you may use another Laser Cannon, that can target the defender, spend its attack to deal the same damage.

(might be overpowered though, but it sort of fits the idea behind the Lancer Frigate's anti-starfighter capabilities).

I wonder if FFG's more likely to make the Lancer Frigate or Tartan Patrol Cruiser. They're both the Imperial's corvette.

You kidding? Landing and reloading in the middle of combat when a ship was close was a common tactic in the X-wing video games. All you need for this game is an upgrade (either a cargo or a hardpoint one), call it something like "external reloading bay", put a picture on in of a TIE bomber docking with the ship in question and you're set.

I would say Lancer, it's a tad more well known among the fans, and being specifically noted to be an anti-fighter craft makes for a great thematic it.

Well as an anti-fighter ship it would be interesting if its range was limited to the standard 1-3 rather than the corvettes requiring it to have heavier laser cannons added to it to fight anything larger then the falcon. Also since it is loaded out with the same weapons as the falcon it could take advantage of a 360 arc to gun down the rebels.

So we know the tantive's stats are:

Fore:

Attack 4 (3-5)

Evade 0

Hull 8

Shields 5

Actions: Coordinate, Target Lock

Upgrades: Hardpoint x2, Team x2, Crew, Cargo

Aft:

Energy: 5

Evade 0

Hull 8

Shields 3

Actions: Reinforce, Recover

Upgrades: Crew, Team, Hardpoint, Cargo

Then if we look at http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lancer-class_frigate compared to http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/CR90_corvette the lancer frigate's stats might be...

Fore:

Attack 4 (1-3)

Evade 0

Hull 9

Shields 6

Actions: Coordinate, Target Lock

Upgrades: Hardpoint, Heavy Weapon, Team

Aft:

Energy: 5

Evade 0

Hull 9

Shields 4

Actions: Reinforce, Recover, Launch Bay

Upgrades: Hardpoint, Heavy Weapon, Cargo

The Lancer maintaining the 1-3 rangeband would be a given if we look at the Corvette. The only guns that go to range 5 are the turbolasers, which the Lancer doesn't have. Their quad lasers might see some upgrades to go the full 1-3 instead of the Corvette's 1-2.

Maybe the marauder class corvette? Only 40 meters longer than the cr-90 so would be roughly the same size. Granted I'd rather see it as a rebel ship...I know I'm selfish.

Regardless of which side, I'd buy two of those marauders. :P

There's a lot of rumors that there'll be new ships with the new star wars animated series on disney.

The Marauders are old EU Imp ships I though, they look like promising candidates...

But the Action IV with its most well known ship being the "Wild Karrde" would be Rebel sided I think,

I'd buy both ofcourse! :D

I would love to see the Carrack class cruiser a smaller capital ship able to combat star fighters or larger capital ships, pretty versatile able to be equipped with additional ion turrets or tractor beams, would fit perfectly into the board game, very useful in Rebellion and Empire at War
