Target lock for defense?

By AdmiralThrawn, in X-Wing

I like the idea and since it is very specific to only who you have locked it could be 1-2pts. It would certainly be a modification or an advanced sensor.

"Advanced Jamming Console"- 2pts

When defending against a target in your firing arc, whom you have target locked, reroll one defense dice. You may spend your targetlock to reroll any number of defense dice.

This would create a situational upgrade that doesn't sacrifice offense unless your opponent has outmaneuvered you. Think if all the times that you have TL and no shot because you had to go a different way, they kturned unexpectedly, or you took it earlier in the game and then had to prioritize a different target... Now it's not just siting on the table.

You could also keep it down to a single point and only allow single dice rerolls across the board. That would certainly incentivize interceptors to take it and grab free locks or both it and TC for 3pts. Cepters usually know who is going to shoot them.

It would kinda make sense that if you were flying, and had a target lock on an enemy ship, you would have a greater chance of hitting them. But if you were focusing on who was pursuing you, you would be better at evading...?

Hoosteen,

there already is a defensive bonus for focusing on who is pursuing you... I's called "Focus".

It would make more sense if this was an ability that somehow countered an enemy who has TL'd you... Oh, wait, there's Sensor Jammer.

But what if there was a way you could focus your attention on staying alive, by taking evasive action... Oh, yeah... that's called "Evade". But not all ships/pilots have "Evade" as an option, how about something that represents some sort of countermeasures? Oh,... were back to Sensor Jammer or Stealth...

What other defensive options are out there? What hasn't been introduced... that makes sense and is not OP?

I think the main point is to make this a defensive skill for misile boats like the bomber, who need target locks for their attacks but don't always get to fire them because of how obvious this makes your intended target.
