Laminate Armor Integrated Attachments

By FreeXenon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

OK, so what is exactly integrated into the armor.

It is says "It typically includes vision magnification and integrated comlinks".

To me that says it has a standard hand comlink integrated, so that seems pretty clear, especially when Dangerous Covenants has a long range commlink option for 0 HP.

But,, what does 'visual magnification' mean: electrobinoculars, macrobinoculars, the vision enhancement modification, none of the above?

I think it is more referring to what kinds of attachments are used with the hard points. I don't think it is specifically referring to what base laminate comes with.

I understand what you are saying, but the word 'typically' means most units sold, which to me would not mean additions added as attachments that take up hard points. I would think that 'typical' sales are the base model, especially when this book did not have an attachment for just magnification, or just for commlinks.

And the blasters typically have scopes and sights that provide no mechanical benefit.

I wish they had not identified the basic laminate armor "stormtrooper armor" because, while stormtrooper armor is the most common version of laminate armor, it specifically includes a number of features that this game requires you to add to laminate armor as attachments if you want it to emulate stormtrooper armor.

Comlink...MFTAS helmet package... Am I forgetting something else?

Bodyglove allowing for limited versions of Thermal Shielding System (perhaps just removing one Setback die instead of two) and Heating System (perhaps just removing one Setback die instead of two), and Vacuum Sealed (which only provides 10 minutes of life support, so it's not like it really makes the stormtrooper into a spacetrooper).

And the blasters typically have scopes and sights that provide no mechanical benefit.

However, the book descriptions of guns do not mention this, and there specifically is an attachment for a scope in the book, and but not for the other two (commlink and visual magnification).

Dangerous Covenants actually has long-range comlink attachment for 0 hard points and a handful of attachments that increase visual abilities, one of which gives Sniper Shot for 0 hard points.

If you feel it should come with it, then have the armour come with integrated commlink and macrobinoculars. It really is that simple. Stuff like this is left for GMs to arbitrate.

I was under the impression the body glove was more comfort then actual effects.

The vac sealing is a pain though, no piece of fiction can agree, some say yes, some no, heck even George had em wearing additional kit...

Yea, I know, but I would like to be able to make ruling that has a little more solid foundation that just making an arbitrary ruling based off some potentially loose wording. I am hoping that someone may be able to provide something that can point one way or the other.

Use the mechanics ffg gave you then. Use a negotiate or streetwise to find an item to purchase, armor included. If the player just rolls success, they get just armor. Advantage they get an integrated comlink. Triumph and it has a magnification package that removes a setback when making perception to spot/view subjects at long range.

10 minutes just for emergencies as is. A few hours of extra air if you add an external airpack (if that is what you are speaking of). We need Small Airpack (chest mounted version) and Large Airpack (backpack version) as added Gear that can be connected to any Vac Sealed suit or armor.

In any event, I think that the standard suit of stormtrooper armor should have the Vacuum Sealed attachment.

Persoanlly I make stormtrooper armour a laminate armour with the Enhanced Optics Suite, Superior Armour Customization, Vacuum Sealed , and (now, from DC) Chedak Communications Multi-Band Comlink. This leaves one hard point for a Thermal Shielding System or Heating System if they need to go into such environments.

Does that leave a hard point? I thought laminate only has 3 hard points. That would mean that Superior might have to go to allow for the environmental options.

Hmmm... that is an interesting idea. I had considered something similar for weapons. =)

Thanks for that. I may have to try that.

We will be playing an Imperial campaign and they are mostly starting to be Storm Troopers, so perhaps I will run with your suggestion. What do you guys think of that?

Yeah you're right. I was remembering the encumbrance, not the HP. So yeah you could swap Superior Customization for those. Or drop the Superior Customization and Vacuum Sealed for the Camouflage System for those Black Hole Troopers or Storm Commandos . Lots of variations available. For many stormtroopers laminate works well. For some of the more specialized like the EVO Troopers the PX-11 Power Armour does a better job.

I don't see an issue if they all start with the same package.

I use Superior Customization only on the original Clone Trooper versions. Stormtrooper Armor (phase III) isn't made as well as the old stuff.
