I have a tournament coming up on Saturday and I'm debating between two lists:

[33] Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Stealth Device
[29] Turr Phennir + Veteran Instincts + Stealth Device
[22] Gamma Squadron Pilot + Concussion Missiles
[16] Backstabber

or

[33] Soontir Fel + Push the Limit + Stealth Device
[19] Howlrunner + Determination
[12] Academy Pilot
[12] Academy Pilot
[12] Academy Pilot
[12] Academy Pilot

I think the swarm list is more competitive, but I like playing the first list a little more. I haven't lost a game with either list yet, but I fear going up against Falcons with the first list (though I could switch the Concussions for Clusters maybe?). What do you guys think?

I like the second list myself!

I would go for the 2nd list, but put stealth device on Howlrunner instead of Soontir. He'll have 2 focus + evade with PTL anyway.

Second list, maybe move Stealth Device and also consider dropping Determination (which could be missed or not) as a slight bid for initiative.

Also consider your two Aces (maybe without Stealth) plus 3 TIE Fighters of some kind as a bridge between them.

Edit: Brainfart and said PtL instead of SD.

I could see moving the Stealth Device, but I'd never touch Soontir's PtL. Also I generally don't like having Initiative with Soontir on the table as moving first is usually a bigger downside than shooting last against other PS9 guys.

Well as im guessing your going to the fight against cancer tournament id say either list is great. Alot depends on if your looking for the most fun or the most competitive. A mix of both is best, im not sure how many competitive players are going. Personally itll be my first tournament. I think youll do great either way.

Nope, I'm just going to a regular tournament at my local shop. No clue what kinds of lists will be there, but it should be fun. Good luck at your tournament though

Well personally Im a little over the academy spam so my vote is for the first list.

I love my buzzsaw space cows so that's were most if my lists start is with one of them and often have it escorted by a black

I ended up running the swarm list with the Stealth Device on Howlrunner and won the tournament! I played against an Interceptor heavy empire list, Lando+B+Y, and souped up Han+Biggs. Was a great time!

If it's just a LGS tourney and not a FFG Store Championship I don't know why they wouldn't. I played in a Store Championship last Sat and whiffed...then went to a LGS's monthly tourney on Sun and placed 3rd. I even had to play against some of those pesky Imp Ace cards!

Not sure what was in the Interceptor heavy list but you should have had numbers there. Then you run into two of those things that swarms just seem to love.

Thanks. Yeah, the Inteceptor list had Turr Phennir, Carnor Jax, Lt Lorrir, and Backstabber. Jax ended up being a lot better than I've thought he was with some pretty exceptional action denial throughout; this was probably my closest game of the night with only Howlrunner and an Academy TIE surviving until the end faced off against a 1 hull Jax and a 2 hull Turr. Sniped Jax from range and managed to do some effective blocking against Turr to finish him off as well. The Lando game ended super quickly with no losses thanks to some effective focus firing from me while he spread his fire too thin, and the final game took sime time to mop up, but I only lost a single TIE.
