Newbies First Squad

By bwingstrike, in X-Wing

So bearing in mind I'm still waiting to play my first proper game, I thought that whilst watching the football (Liverpool won!) I'd have at a go at making up some squads.

So what are your thoughts on this squad?

Ibtisam + Fire Control System

A-wing Green Squadron Pilot + Concussion Missiles

2 x Red Squadron Pilots

99pts

Improvements, issues? Also I don't have every card yet, hopefull be getting some more expansions soon....

Ditch the A wing and take another b wing: a dagger squad, or a blue with FCS

Well for what you have listed in your sig...that is a pretty sound squadron. You have 4 ships which is always good for the Rebels. You have decent fire output and a good amount of damage soak. Only thing I may change is this:

Ibtisam + Fire Control System
A-wing Green Squadron Pilot + PtL + Homing Missiles
2 x Rookie Pilots

99pts

That gives your A-Wing the ability to TL and Focus at the expence of gaining a Stress. But when it attacks with the Homing Missiles it doesn't have to spend the TL to fire them....giving you a TL and Focus for the attack that prevents the opponent from using Evade tokens. Also from a defensive point the A-Wing will be able to do any combo of Focus/Evade/Boost thanks to PtL.

Now if you are planning on spendin some money then get another B-Wing and 2 Lambdas. That would allow you to do:

2 x Dagger Squadron + Advanced Sensors

2 x Red Squadron Pilots

100pts

But for what you own the first list is good....just practice with it an learn to fly it well.

Currently waiting on the 2nd B wing to arrive. Would switching the a for an x help?

Why don't you have the FCS card yet? I would stick with the A-Wing. People underestimate it, but with PtL and a good missle they can be nasty as a flanker. Just keep Focus and Evading to stay alive until you get that shot off!

I'll hopfully be getting at least one copy of each. Still waiting on delivery of the 2nd B wing. Just needs some games now..

I do, was being a bit dumb when I wrote the reply!

My thoughts:

Ibtisam = target #1.

GSP = Watch out for the missile and then ignore until everything else is dead.

Reds = Ok, points spent may be good if I'm playing PS 3 or 4 (when you have initiative) but otherwise aren't helping so much.

I think you can work with those ships even with those thoughts but you asked.

An idea at 99 points:

Biggs (or Garven for one more point)

Red

Dagger + FCS + Ion

Green + PtL

Green becomes better that it would have been once the missile was gone an TL+Focus can help damage if needed along with the survivor options. Downgraded Ibtisam as you don't have a direct stressor (could have used PtL on her) for her ability which also steps on what FCS would get used for; selected the Ion cannon for its disruptive potential against certain types of squads and ships. I put in Biggs because he can take some of the heat normally directed at other ships as the most dangerous ships is still the B-Wing.

I think it's kinda good for new players to have low pilot skill, that way they have to worry about bumping less. Here's the list i would go with...

Blue + FCS (24)

Biggs (25)

Wedge (29)

Prototype + Assault Missiles (22)

The Idea is the Biggs goes with the Blue and Wedge, while the prototype flanks. This is just MY squad you can run whatever you want, the most important part of the game is to have fun (unless your in a tournament ;) )

Solid list. You've not made any actual mistakes. Folks are butting in with their preferences as though it's fleet-building law, but it isn't.
Flown well, these 4 ships ought to do fairly well against most match-ups until you starting getting into high-tier competition.
