The Royal Guard Patrol (Looking Forward a bit)

By Englishpete, in X-Wing

This is a list that flies a Royal Guard Wing led by Jax that is designed to make maximum use of the whole dial.

It requires formation flying but I've been doing that with Ints for a while. It is also designed to tackle the upcoming increase in stress in the game.

And then you come up against a list that hasn't included any flechette torps or R2-D3 and you realize that you wasted 8 points on wingman... not to mention your EPT. I would think this would be much better dropping wingman from at least 2 of them, and adding PTL and maybe VI to them. That way you have two interceptors at PS8 (Carnor w/ PTL so he can take evade and stay around longer), and two wingmen that can pull Carnor's stress from PTL. That way if one dies before Carnor, you can still pull it with the other one.

It's hard to say where the meta will go, but I doubt every. single. list. is going to be constantly stressing you out every turn such that you need to get rid of 8 stress every turn.

I do agree on the opposition not stressing me, but Wingman lets me use a K-turn all the time.....

And I love the K-Turn

But then you're sitting without actions... which might as well be the end of your interceptor.

Action loss for not being shot at is often a fair trade :-)

I like it.

Sometimes I hate running PTL because it conflicts with K Turns. I also dislike not being able to 1 Turn when stressed after a K Turn or PTL. With Jax, I bet you won't miss PTL too much. Return fire could be weaker! Especially if the lower PS ships weren't in range to TL that turn, and you rush into range 1 :P

I also like that Jax can force the TL, which is perfect for the high PS Interceptors to boost or barrel roll away from. Thats just an added thought I JUST had.

Though, I agree with Khyros on dropping just 2 of the wingmen for something like VI, OR, MAYBE Elusiveness! :P

My one comment - I too love the Koiogran turn, and being able to K-Turn at will is superb. However, it is the only red manouvre that squints have, and the last thing you want to get into with them is the habit of koiogran 'jousting' with a fighter with shields....

Dunno. Given that you can't take actions after a K-Turn, even with a wingman, all you're really doing is allowing yourself to chain multiple K-Turns together. That seems a waste for interceptors, especially since the Defender is supposedly built for high-speed jousting with its green straight 5, white koiogran and cannon slot....

I'm not saying I would do this every turn, but it is certainly an interesting model outside of PtL all the time.

I'm going to have to agree here. Just take the Defender if you want a jousting craft.

Not to mention mathematically, it's statiscally better to stack PTL Focus + Evade on the joust itself, then 4-green, Boost left/right bank + Barrel roll out next turn.
