Klaatooinian?

By signoftheserpent, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

What's this?

Why has FFG invented a race? There's no such canon race. There's a character called Klaatu who is a Nikto.

Looks like FFG screwed up. Quite an error.

I stand corrected

Who would give a rat's if FFG made up a species?

It's weird that their names are so similar. I imagine it was a mistake that got made during the films, though. George wanting a "Day the Earth Stood Still" in-joke and ending up with two.

I wouldn't mind if FFG invented their own species. Seems a bit redundant though, given how many appear in the films (and books, and comics...).

Are you joking?!? Clearly a violation of the alien creation imagination prohibition treaty of 1972.........sheesh.........

Where are the Baradas, that's what I want to know.

I also fully support the making up of species on the part of FFG or anybody else who wants to make one up. It's a huge universe, there's plenty of room for a little creativity.

Keep in mind that "Yoda's Species" has never been defined any more than that. Yes, there was a female from the same species present in the background in episode 1, but never detailed.

Lots of room for potential new species, indeed, but there's still a number of iconic ones to be covered.

Given what i heard from Andrew Fischer on one of the Order 66 podcasts, I suspect that we may see Zabraks and Kel Dor for Force and Destiny. No he didn't say as much, but he did indicate that the choice of species and where to include them was quite difficult, so they try to work them in where they they seem most appropriate. Of the ones we have not seen, Zabraks and Kel Dor seem most appropriate in a Force-related setting...

Well there is a Klatoonian named Barada.

Indeed! I'm also expecting Togruta, Iktotchi, Cerean, and other races of the Jedi Council from the prequels and Clone Wars tv series!

According to the species guide, there are many Klatooinians named Barada - it's their equivalent to John.

Remembers the Klatooinian Revolutionary card from the old Star Wars CCG. That was pretty much the only non-unique character card that was in every Lightside deck I built.

Word. Klatooinians have been around in EU canon for a solid 25 years now...in fact they're one of the first species to get a name and back story in the EU.

Klatooinians are a great race mechanically in the game. I like them a lot.

Hmm If they ever release a Hutt Space sourcebook, or maybe even just one for the Arkanis sector I might try to talk one of the GMs in my group into resuming, or restarting the Klatooinian revolutionary campaign we had going back in Saga. Some of the players involved moved bt that might actually help. If we resume we can say they died in battle or the band split into two to spread our operations further. The latter would also explain why we didn't have all the resources of the old group since the player of the group leader is one of the ones that moved, but the second in command's player is still with the group.

We can say the second in command got the leader's blessing to form the new group but was only given a very limitd amount of resources to start since the leader felt the second in command shouldn't need much more than the original band started with.

The Arkanis Sector is on the completely opposite end of Hutt Space from Klatooine. OTOH the Sisar Run and surrounding territories are much closer to Klatooine.

True but Klatooinians can be found pretty much anywhere Hutts are, and most Klatooinians opposed to Hutt rule in the early GCW are those who have traveled off their world, based on my interpretation of what I've read on the subject. And if Hutt Space as a whole doesn't get a source book Arkanis Sector is the region within Hutt Space most likely to get one IMO since it contains Tatoooine.

Klatooinians are a mechanically strong choice for many character types, and are about as good as Humans in this system (and that says a lot considering how well regarded Humans are in this system). I really like them too. Of course, I also like the Aqualish despite their not so impressive species stats. Too bad I think the Weequay are terrible, as otherwise I'd have liked all of the species from DC.

Ah, but technically Arkanis Sector is actually not within Hutt Space by the time of the Galactic Civil War. The borders of Hutt Space greatly shrink from the time between The Phantom Menace to A New Hope.

True but its pretty clear from both the OT and the EU of that era that the Hutts still have a lot of influence there, or on Tatooine at least.

Yeah, the Klatooinians entered into a very unfair and very binding agreement with the Hutts millennia ago, so basically Klatooine is a protectorate of the Hutts and the Klatooinians are bound by ancient tradition to serve the Hutts as their slaves for eternity.

Kinda sucks.
