So, I'm going to be participating in a campaign where the party starts off as officers on board a Nebulon-B Frigate. It's not clear yet exactly what role the party plays in runnings of the ship, but it seems we're kind of VIPs. This all being said, we have a silhouette 6 ship and it'd be nice to increase it's hangar space, since we have some sil 4 ships taking up room in the hangar and don't have the 2 full squadrons the ship is supposed to carry. The retrofitted hangar bay increases as a base, on a sil 6 ship, the hangar capacity by 20. What I'm a little confused about is how much each of the mods increase the space by. Do each of them increase the space by a further 20 silhouette, meaning if you had all 5 Mods on a Nebulon B you would have an additional 120 sil of space, in addition to the 72 sil of the original hangar bay?
Retrofitted Hangar Bay
You realize that a Neb B can carry 72 Sil worth of craft stock and with the unmodded retro hangerbay kit that number goes up to 92?
So without the kit you can carry 18 sil 4 craft, and with the kit, but before mods you can carry 23.
Just saying I wouldn't worry until you actually start filling those up...
Aye, Ghostofman nails it.
Also, the retrofitted hangar bay attachment isn't really for increasing hangar bay size as adding a hangar bay to a vehicle without one by default.
As for increasing size of existing hangar bays, if at all necessary, one could opt for the retrofitted one, but I'd probably go another route if it's performed by proper starship manufacturing facilities, engineers and so on.
Op is asking about the mod option for the Hangar Bay, which has caused some contention for awhile. I see in the Age of Rebellion Beta errata they replaced the wording with "5 additional maximum silhouette (+1) capacity mods. So that means you could add 5 more silhouette to the Nebulon, for a total of 77. Er 97. Math!
Edited by Bipolar PotterThe maximum silhouette wording is still there in the AoR, and that's what the confusing point is. Is maximum silhouette capacity another 20? Or perhaps it's an additional + the maximum size the ship can carry, i.e. sil 4 on a sil 6 ship.

That might be a little too generous. I wouldn't allow freighters on the fighter racks at all, so if you need to make room for Silhouette 4 ships, you'll need another option. Of course, docking clamps allows for a few, but options are far more limited if you lack a hangar to take them inside.

Outer space boat rack?
Yeah the parenthesis part of the desciption gives you a bit of a warning flag in that regard. Id say maybe ome Sil 4 or two on the outside docking. And maybe one or two in the hangar.
Ghostman, im picturing a B2 with a dozen Falcons just docked willynilly all over the ship. Urgh.
I don't make the rules I just read em
I agree its a little bonkers, but it's allowed.
Its not the first hanger to make not much sense, and technically the neb-b is actually too small for a hanger at all.
It seems like it could fit maybe a squadron inside. And even then it would have only been then Ties they were originally designed for.
Docking clamp is how they did the Falcon in Empire

How can a Neb-B be too small for a hanger when many Star Wars ships its size have one, including two new models first introduced in Edge of the Empire? Hell the Marauder's aren't even two-thirds the size of a Neb-B and they have always had hangers, except for the missile variant in Empire at War.
This is a gripe many have held for a long time. The B2 is simply too small to fit a full 2 squadrons inside that tiny little hangar. It'd fit, realisticly, 6 fighters and have actual room to launch and maintain them. Of course this is a game so bah, physics and concepts of space be damned.

The hanger was added in the X-wing PC games to provide a mothership for TIEs that wasn't a star destroyer, and just never went away. Even in the game you could tell there just isn't space for more than about four TIEs.
WEG scaled it up to make room, but of course then the scale in the films didn't match anymore...
Also, the maruader isn't new, its been around for decades...
Edited by GhostofmanYeah, i mean watch RotJ, and youll see them dogfight around one. Ive seen people hypothesize that the stem was where you could attach multiple fighters, but that sounds like a traffic control nightmare. And doesnt even factor in how the hell that thing is supposed to make a hyper jump with a dozen fighters clinging to the sides.
I always assumed that the TIE fighters on the Nebulon-B were carried on external rack mounts. With minor modification they could be reworked to handle other fighters. Connecting light freighters to the racks would require major reworking and would probably require multiple adjacent racks.
The way the argument goes is this: unlike most other ships, the neb b has an exact scale, in that at the end of empire you see an exterior shot with Luke in the window. So people (with more free time then myself) have been able to calculate the size and determine there just isn't room for a hanger.

Sorry should have been more clear I was referring to the Xanter and Starbolt when I mentioned new, roughly Nebulon-B sized ships with fighter bays not the Marauder. Also the Neb-B has had a two squadron hanger bay since WEG statted it in 1987 I believe, long before the X-Wing games came out. All the sources I've seen say the fighters are stored in an internal bay rather the external racks.
Regarding the Nebulon-B2 they are smaller than the Nebulon-Bs. However they are still larger than the Marauder class Corvette which has a 12 fighter bay. And AFAIK we don't know how many fighters te Neb-B2 carries because I've nevr seen an official full set of stats on the class, something I hope FFG fixes very soon.
Youre arguing into the wind, I'm totally indifferent.
You asked where the neb b not being able to carry fighters came from, and I told you. Its an artifact, that's all. The falcon interior set also can't fit into the exterior set, but we all know that all the best ships are bigger on the inside...
