Would this be considered cheating?

What about if you pull out the movement card of your opponent's ships and use it as a reference?

At the start of a match, a guy pulled a card with the Interceptor movements (I was running interceptors, he was not), and took a quick peek before putting it away. He only looked at it once, and it was before the match began. I didn't say anything, but I would've if he would've used it again.

That is a tuff one. There is no rule for that type of thing, so it is allowed. Other games have rules for such things in a tournament setting but X-Wing has yet to evolve to that yet. You should have asked him for his ships reference card.

Cheating? No. Are you a bit of an ass for trying to do it, yeah kind of.

I never tried it. I simply base my strategy on guesstimating movement based of if my opponent is an idiot or not.

If you are thinking of your opponents in terms of 'idiot' or 'not idiot' then you're awfully toxic...I bet you're a joy to play with, prejudging opponents and considering them idiots for not playing at your level ;)

How's that cheating? He's refreshing his memory about how they move, no different than looking at a reference guide or the rulebook (the movement list is on the back of the book for the x-wing/TIE ;) ) are you going to ban the rulebook?

I used those very cards at the Store Championship tournament I just went to. I had them out all game as reference for the maneuvers of my opponent's ships; I don't own most of the ships so I wanted to know what moves they could pull off. If anyone had asked me to put them away, I would have, but I fail to see how it is even unsportsmanlike to use reference cards like those.

I think it is even stated in the rule book that you can use the movement guide. Either way it is for sure not cheating to have that sitting out on the table.

If you still have a problem with it....think about this. If he was using interceptors as well....would it be illegal for him to look at his own dial?

How a ship moves is just open information. I would say that it would be stalling though if: before every turn he took 5 minutes to review the dials for all your ships. But that would be the only problem I see with a guide card, or cheat sheet.

The last sentence of the maneuvers table text reads, "Keep this sheet on hand so that players can reference this table at any time" so it looks like negative9 has the right answer.

Good to know. It was more of a question then an accusation of cheating/unsportsmanlike conduct. I made my own sheet that I will reference going forward.

I always bring two full sets of maneuver cards to the game, so my opponent can use them as well if preferred. When I have new players trying the game, the cards go over big. New players seem to like taking the cards for the ships they are playing just as much as those they are fighting.

I can understand why some players would take offense to this. Is it cheating? No. There are no rules that would prevent this.

I can't. The ships actually come with these charts for the purpose of referencing during play. In fact, I got the impression that the idea was for you to have those bits of packaging for all of your ships with you while playing so that the other player has a reference of your ships capability. As someone stated above, the rulebook actually tells you they are for looking at during a game, by both players.

I would take offense at someone who objected to having such a reference during the game.
