New TIE Fighter pilots anyone?

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

The TIE Fighter is loved by the Imperial players ... but ... perhaps they use them because there are not many options.

Nevertheless I'd love to have more unique pilots like:

  • Juno Eclipse: "Your target can't use focus tokens to modify defence dice" + EPT
  • Redline: "Your critical hits ignore shields" + EPT
  • Nas Ghent: "Targets in range 3 don't get an additional defence die"
  • Chaser: "If you are attacked from inside your firing arc, you gain +1 defence"
  • Youngster:"You ignore any effects of astroids"
  • Quorl :"You ignore all enemy area effects" + EPT
  • Wampa:"for each stress token assigned to your ship you gain +1 attack"

TIE Fighters already have three generics, one with an EPT, and six named pilots; they don't need more help.

Redline, as is, would come with Marksmanship as a no-brainer.

Most die before anyone has a chance to remember their names...or...say 'F this!", steal a wookie and become a smuggler.

Sure, do what you have to do .... but ... just DON'T STRESS Wampa xD

Redline, as is, would come with Marksmanship as a no-brainer.

There are a lot of problems with these, but I'd rather not get into arguing about the specifics--since it's clear to me that, on the Imperial side, TIE Fighters have less need for new pilots than any other ship.

Of course they don't NEEEEED new pilots, just like the Advanced would need a fix + new pilots.

I just love the humble Tie Fighter ... and I would love to get more unique pilots with interesting abilities, like the ones above.

There are plenty of options. I'm all for more TIE pilots but we don't really need them.

Characters as described - would make them 6's and 7's on pilot skill. Eclipse, Redline and Ghent were all black eight leader at some point, so should match Mauler Mithel. For the others, 6 is fine.

Juno was principally a bomber pilot when she was with Black Eight; her 'big name' operation was taking out a planetary shield generator.

I'd make her more effective against large ships - bonus attack dice or rerolls against large ships and capital ships.

Redline - certainly that ability as written is Waaaaaaay to good. I've no problem with ignore shields - if 'ignore defence dice' is possible, then why not 'ignore shields' - but only either at a specific range band or only a single hit or some other pretty strict restriction.

Redline is a complete psychopath - his noted trait is cruelty. The way I'd represent this in game is to give him an attack bonus against damaged targets.

Nas Ghent is an ex CIS veteran - he's very much a 'been around and survived' pilot, and he lives through some assassination attempts by fellow imperial pilots. He deserves a defensive upgrade - possibly even a 'reverse wedge'; attackers get one less attack die?

Youngster wasn't really anyone special - he 'had potential' but you never see that much of him before you kill him.

Given that he dies by slamming into an obstacle, ignoring obstacles is definitely a no-no. If he must have a pilot skill, something generic like getting a bonus from a higher PS pilot might work - if a higher PS pilot within range 1 gains a focus token, Youngster also gains a focus token.

Quorl - Why area effects? And what is an area effect? Quorl's history was nursing a crippled TIE home despite massive damage - I would put in a rule to prevent him being one-shotted - i.e. no matter how much damage an attack does to him, you can only reduce him to 1 hit point, you need to hit him again to kill him.

Wampa - certainly a stress-powered abiity. I would just stick to "if you have any stress tokens, gain +1 attack" rather than 'for each'.

For Youngster, how about a pilot with a detrimental pilot ability with a reduced point value? Like:

Youngster (TIE Fighter - PS4)

When overlapping or flying through an obstacle, roll 2 attack dice instead of 1. For each [ hit ] or [ crit ], assign damage.

10 pts.

This gives you an option to add an additional ship if you don't have enough points left for an Academy tie, but he's really fragile around asteroids, and you can only have one of him (no 10-TIE swarms).

I don't know their background stories so i bet most of the x-wing players don't know their names ... so lets see what we could do with all this fluff ...

I like the idea of Redline gaining +1 attack on already damaged targets.

Wampa is cool like he is.

Quorl: With area effects i meant: bombs, Biggs, ... all negative area effects.

Of course it would be cool as well to have Juno as a Bomber pilot.

There are other ships that need attention before the Ti Fighter.

There are other ships that need attention before the Ti Fighter.

There were other ships that needed attention before the B-Wing. :)

I'm don't believe the OP was asking, "Does the Tie Fighter need more Pilots?"

But to answer his post, I think it would be cool to have a completely support Tie.

Basicly:

Nas Ghent: "Targets in range 3 don't get an additional defence die"

Only the something opposite:

Nas Ghent: "Friendly units within 2 range get an additional defense die."

Maybe to keep it from being overpowered;

"May choose to give one friendly unit an extra defense die, at the cost of one attack die."
