Project: Navy Hawk

By WedgeAntilles9, in X-Wing

Hello everyone!

So I was inspired by ZombieHedgeHog to do my first repaint. Since I love the look of WWII fighters I decided to use the US navy color scheme for my hawk. An example I looked to was:

So with my small painting skills I began my first repaint. I am pretty happy with the results though it still requires a little touching up. Enjoy!

I'll leave the technical comments to those who can actually hold a brush without accidentally setting it on fire.

I'll just say that it sure is blue. :D .

I think it's great that people are finding so many ways to enjoy this game and make it more personal.

I've actually thought of doing this, as I am an avid history buff and love navy aircraft from WWII, I was also a Navy brat and spent 10 years in the Coast Guard as well. That said, I also play wings of glory (WWI) verson moreso than the WWII version, and I do a lot of repaints on my biplanes..

Was gonna do it on some X wings and do the dual colors using gull grey on the bottom hafl. I think the X wing is a perfect medium for doing some paint jobs like this..

That sure is blue. My 1st advice is to use a slightly lighter blue or use the original and mix a touch of white into it and drybrush all the blue areas. The HWK more that pretty much all the other fighters has a lot of sharp edges and raised detail and the drybrush will bring that all out. Then it's just some careful time cleaning up the white markings, should be easy with that dark blue to paint over the edges to make them nice and straight again. A bit of engine glow at the back looks good on the HWK too.

I like it! Love the teeth!

Need to get a, "Don't Tread On Me," decal.

Or "Don't Step Here"

I agree with the wash. It helps bring out a lot of the cool details of the Hwk.

Here is a pic of my repainted Hwk:

Not to Hijack, but I am seconding the awesomeness that is washes. Pick up some Citadel (Games Workshop) 'Nuln Oil', amazing purchase.
