Played my 1st game

By Hiredgun4, in X-Wing

I played my 1st game of X-wing last night and really enjoyed it.I've been playing TableTop Stratagy [TTS} games for years, and this one is in the top 5 of all the ones I play. the movement sequence is unique,I like it. There are a lot of parts to keep up with, movement templates, tokens, cards, but I'll find a way to organize all that.

There was 1 issue we found last night. 1 member of the group accidently put his movement dial together wrong, used a Tie fighter back with an X-wing front. Now I'm not saying anyone has done this, but as a player who has gone to many TTS game tournaments over the years,I would be concerned that someone would try to "cheat" by using a different movement dial for a ship like having an X-wing with the movement of a Tie fighter. Has this come up in any FFG tournaments?

Interesting issue. Admittedly I've never heard of this being a serious problem, but I get where it could happen.

A good thing to notice is that the Reb backs are red, and Imps are black (because they're evil facists.)

Once you play a few games a "modified dial" will stand out like a sore thumb. There are movement schedules for all the ships online that you can download. They really help to see what your opponent's ships can do move wise.

No one to date where I have played has created a cheating dial.

Glad you enjoyed the game, it is lots of fun.

If he put a dial together wrong I'd hope he'd just try to take it apart and put the correct pieces together. If he mixed up X-Wing and TIE Fighter parts then he'll have at least TWO dials that are wrong.

As for a "cheating" dial you probably want to learn what ships do anyways to you can make educated guesses on where they might go. If you see a TIE Fighter do a green straight 1 you should INSTANTLY know that something is up. I'm not sure what official policy is regarding such but it is technically illegal and could result in the game being declared a loss without much difficulty.

I could see it as an issue with new players, but once you get a few games in and start to study the game, like every players participating in a tournament, you will know when a ship do a maneuver that it's not suppose to do. I don't care if it's on your dial, a X-Wing doesn't have a green straight 4 move.

I would like to think that the official FFG ruling would result in taking "Darth Cheater" and doing something like this:

Memorize the movements if all the ships, you need to do that anyways.

if he tries to make a sharp right #1 turn with an X-Wing kick him under the table.

print the sheets listed above in the links till you get to know the ships better. knowing how your enemy can fly will determin what manovers you will want to fly.
