I heard 50 some people, Path of the Master is a card that lets you use any resource only abilities (like those on No Memories), and there's apparently a penny arcade promo (?!?) with some resource only abilities on it. and they kept the patches.
That's all i've got so far.
The promo fits well with what the patch tournaments and all that were about, but sounds like jank.
So they aren't giving the patches back at all? I think I would have rather kept my patches.
Maybe they'll give the patches back. IDK. let me call someone and see if I can find anything out... ?
The patches will be returned on Sunday to the players. I got mine back tonight because I won't be there tomorrow. Each participant got a copy of "Path of the Master" asset card for each patch, 1 ShadoWar box topper and 1 Penny Arcade asset.
I don't recall top 8's members except Jon Herr made top 4. Sorry, I don't know the other players so can't recall their names.
I got only made 16th after a dramatic play error in the 3rd round against Scubadude who wasn't a good sport to admit he'd lost to me.. but that's what happens when you make silly mistakes like I did and that's when you find out who your friends really are.
Well, I'm off to bed... I'll post details of my experience later when I'm back home on my pc.
5-0-1 John Macek (Chun-Li) 2-0'ed Olexa (Hilde) in top 8.
Jeremy Ray (Seong Mina) is in top 8.
John Herr (John Herr) is in top 8.
Some d00d (Zi Mei) is in top 8.
Craig Roberts (Rock Howard) is in top 8.
Some d00d (Tira/Chun-Li) is in top 8.
thats all i know
I lol at people sandbagging Chun-Li.
i lol at the event. but for obscur reasons
Anyone know if the PA asset was the same as the old one or did it get a facelift?

it's the same asset. Steve only said that it's not legal as of now - but may see a reprint down the line
So the only real reason for giving out Penny Arcade to people is for legacy events, or possible future happenings (although i'm assuming that as its not legal atm, it wont be a shurikened copy)?

So you made a play error and he wouldn't let you take it back? Or just wouldn't say "Yeah you would have won if you hadn't stuffed up"? Either way it's a competitive event he shouldn't be required to do anything about your error, I can't see why you have sour grapes about it. If you stuff up due to pressure, exhaustion, laziness or just brain explosion it's part of the game. If he didn't stuff up and beat you then didn't he just out play you?
I would like to know the circumstances because it seems a little odd that you'd get upset by this.
So what're the stats for Path of the Master? I'm assuming it's an Infinity card, or has all twelve symbols, which would make it essentially an Infinity card that looked cooler.
Seeing that John Herr got ahold of his character card to play it in the event, did any other champions have their cards out and playing them for the event?

It started out fine when the game started with Scuba. I cracked some jokes about playing Morrigan against him and all was good since we knew each other. As the game progressed he started to get frustrated due to bad checks and bad draws. Twice had he told me to pay the cost for Ira-Spinta 1st before selecting what I wanted to move from his stage.. I always ask him, "Can you negate my enhance?".. he had nothing to negate it.. bad sport if you ask me.
The third round came and we where 1-1 when I actually had a killing hand. I was down to 5 VT and he was 3 VT. I had a couple Manifest Destiny, a Ready for Anything and Bitter Rivals on my board among many other foundations. I played a Healer into my card pool to trigger my manifest destinies to commit his 1 of his Amy's Assistance and his No Memories. Then I played the only attack I drew, Knight Breaker. The very 1st enhance I used was Ready for Anything +1/+3 to make it 4H8. Scuba used the remaining Amy's to reveal a Spinta from the top of my deck. I then hastily used Ready for Anything's Fire enhance to draw the Spinta and another card. He then used his Bitter Rivals revealing no mid blocks and made my discard a keyword, the Spinta. I thought I had lost my kill condition at that point since the Spinta in my mind was my sure victory. I played a Kung-Fu training discarding a Makai High Noble to boost the KB to a 10H6.. it lost 2 dmg due to Amy's earlier. Scuba blocks the attack with a mid block, his own KFT, at 11 DF.. he checked a 5 committing 6 of his 15+ foundations to pass. I thought no more of my attack nor the damage... hell, I didn't even realize it was a death blow. I ended my turn after the blank out and Scuba proceeded to his turn without informing me that he actually lost... he claims to say that he took 2 with me and I agreed, but the fact is I didn't even hear him. He proceeded to play his turn. As he did, I started to regain my wits and realized that I had already won. His 1st response was that it was already too late and that he already started his turn and had enough attack/dmg to beat me. I said that we didn't even need to play this turn cuz I already won. I denied it and said that my dmg last turn brought him down to 1 and that I didn't recall me ever using Ready for Anything's E. I caught him in a couple of my lies when he fumbled around numbers of what the speed was, but all was lost for me at that point. I did blank out and did not claim my win when I had it and allowed him to advance to his turn thus unable to reset the state to clarify to the judges what happened.
So.. yeah, my bad and his bad sportsmanship. According to the rules, he won because I messed up, but he should've been honest to tell me that he was knocked out instead of taking advantage of my brain fart. This is not YuGiOh and players taking advantage of the rules as such and rules sharking to win due to mistakes like this is a negavity to this community. I hadn't have a bad gaming experience since the YGO premiere days and I hope this is the last.
It's cool, atleast you know you're the better player and won, Cheat to wiiiiin, woot.

My only question is: Why didn't you you call a judge? When a player is reduced to 0 the game instantly ends, unless of course he played a card that responds when you're reduced to 0 (and those cards have already cycled). Anyways, you should've called a judge and explained that he partially blocked, took 3, and lost the game.
Gotta say...that really puts quite a damper on Mr. Scuba. I mean...it's not like it was Worlds or anything terribly important...
Also...John Herr used John Herr? Have we even SEEN his character card? What about Omar, and the rest of the champions? o_O...
The champions just got their cards this weekend if they went to the PotM event, those who didn't well get theirs soon. So no one outside the PotM event has seen them yet.
Gravelord, while Scuba was essentially being a bad sport for how that game ended, he was NOT being a bad sport by telling you to pay the cost of ISpin before selecting what of his was going from his staging area to the momentum. Despite whatever he had out, you MUST always pay costs first. It is the rules of the game. I certainly would have made you pay the cost first regardless of whether or not I had anything out to negate the enhance. Keep in mind that (and I say this with all due respect and I'm not accusing you of anything) if you try to play the effect of a card before paying the cost, you can be charged with Cheating and be disqualified, as far as I know.
That being said, it does not excuse Scuba from an underhanded tactic to win a game. While he has no obligation to alert you to his vitality total unless asked, no player should be so disrespectful and low to another player in such a manner. I'm actually quite shocked that a player such as himself would do something so low to a player that isn't an average joe.

And this is why I have a calculator at all times and look at it almost every attack just in case of this happening.
So Scuba caught a beatdown right, or is that just how things are done in MTG events? Also I like how the promo's useless, as it maybe points to promos not being absolutely necessary cards you can't even pull in packs anymore.

i like that we don't NEED this promo since I didn't get to go
Just got a message from Andrew Olexa, the finals were Jon Herr vs Jeremy Ray. Jon Herr Won
Can we all not point fingers about play mistakes and such. I don't care what happened between gravelord and scuba nor do I want to hear a he said / he said thing. I would much rather hear about decklists, new cards that were seen at the event, and all that jazz.
Oh that's just hilarious. Jon Herr wins the event with his own character card, in the first event it's played in
Congrats to Herr, seriously.
