Paranoia

Not the Talent, but the in game effects of suffering from paranoia.

How have you guys handled it?

In tonights session the characters were deep underground, in caves when the light bearing servitor gets killed gruesomely, and the light fades out leaving them in pitch black.

(out of the game i turned off all the lights in the game room, and continued to describe the scene to the characters in the dark itself to ramp up the Feel of it).

Using a mini light, just enough for me to see byi had them roll a WP check, failure meant they had to make a Perception check.

If they failed the first roll they thought something was behind or around them, if they failed the 2nd roll then they were totally sure there was something there.

Thankfully the characters took to the spirit of it, and started using their laspistols as stop gap lighting, shooting wildly in the dark and just missing eachother a few times, until they managed to get to some where there was a little light (strange green glowing in the cave walls) to negate some of their perception modifiers..

How do you guys make the Characters check for paranoia or do you simply let theplayers roleplay it with out adversely affecting he characters when it comes to Fear checks and the like?
