Old rebel ships will se Replacements

By SoulCrusherEx, in X-Wing

well as we all know is that the E wing was the future replacement for the X wing later in the EU

while the K wing does the same to the good old Y wing that had its best days until the 2nd galactic civil war.

dont know if we will see that coming in the bigger scaled point fights called epic. well i myself would pick more E wings instead of X wings then cause of the versatile nature of them.

dont know what do u guys think ? will the E wing fighter replace the x wing

and will the K wing bomber replace the good old Y wing ;p ? like they did already in the books ^^ ?

NOW DISCUSS !!!

I dont think so. I originally thought the Z would replace the A but FF does a great job of balancing things ie Chadraan refit

I don't think they will directly replace ships. It's bad business on FFG part to have the new shiny ships make the old ones obsolete. If the Ewing is a better xwing, than you have a disgruntled core of players saying 'why did I buy a bunch of xwings if they are useless now?'. The newer players are also going to only buy the ewing, meaning ffg gets less money than they could for the xwing. I played 40k for 10 years, this was a constant source of frustration when a new edition/codex came out.

The tie defender, in the fluff, is basically an interceptor on steroids. In this game though, its shaping up to be an extremely powerful jouster, but not so great at the tight maneuvering that makes the interceptor so deadly in dog fights. If they did make it based off fluff, imperial players wouldnt have much incentive to buy other fighter craft, and they make less money.

The best example of this would be the bwing. Which, while a ywing replacement in the fluff, has a different role to it on the table top. ywings are still used because of their turrets, they are a better support ship, where the bwing is a good dogfighter. This is why you see more bwings than ywings, it has nothing to do with them being a better ship. Just that the role they fill is in more demand.

If you see say, the kwing, it will probably be an extremely capable missile boat with a turret for larger point games (epic format). But it wont do the ion thing as well as ywings, or be as effective a dogfighter as the bwing.

This game, finally, has the point system and named pilots. The ewing might be a better xwing, but you cant fly as many of them. And the ewing doesnt have biggs, luke, or wedge. Sometimes you need a specific ability only seen one ship.

THAT, has been one of the aspects of this game that I have really enjoyed.

With each new wave of ships, our old ships become "new" again, thanks to new cards and upgrades.
