Ways of the Force (fan supplement)

By Donovan Morningfire, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Old thread is long gone and likely long forgotten, so I figured I'd just start up a fresh one.

Version 1.3 has just been published to the web, and can be downloaded through my blog here:

Read the blog post for the details on what's changed and why, as well as what the future likely holds where this fan supplement is concerned.

Very nice, cant view the PDF now, as im on the road and my main Mobile device is a sh*tty, sh*tty Nook. I might get back home by next weekend. God i hope i get back by next weekend. But anyway looks good and from what i remember of 1.2 looks like a good way to tide one over til Force and Destiny Beta Drops. I especially liked your decision to change Deflect Blasters as it really was a far too complex talent to begin with.

I like a lot of what's in here, but concerning the Message power tree, are Force users capable of sending messages like this to non-Force sensitives? I only ask because I can only think of one example of this kind of power in the movies (or at least the original trilogy) - after the Luke/Vader battle in Cloud City, when Leia hears Luke crying out for her. (Leia is, unbeknownst to her at the time, Force sensitive.)

It's never really discussed in the EU if a non-FS can receive, only that conversations tend to take place between Force-users.

In WEG, they had familial relation play a big part in how easy it was to send a telepathic message, citing Luke and Leia's (then unknown) sibling relationship as to why he was able to reach her, battered and bruised as he was.

Truthfully, most of the games I've been in have only had a single Force-sensitive character, and all the prior Star Wars RPGs have permitted using telepathy to contact non-Force types, so I've opted to error on the side of what makes the game fun.

Fair enough. I like the work you did here, so I'm going to be using it with my group. I'm probably going to restrict that one power tree, however.

*dusts off the cobwebs*

Turns out version 1.3 wasn't the final update after all.

Version 1.4 of Ways of the Force can be found on my blog:

I've tinkered with various bits and pieces of the file, such as a major revision to Deflect Blasters and some re-arranging of the Jedi Initiate. Message and Rebuke both got revisions, and I've brought back the core idea of "minor Force powers" only this time around as "Force techniques" that are generally attached to one of the existing powers much like a Control Upgrade and simply add a minor usage to the power's core ability.

Edit: So Dropbox decided to be funny and add an extra character when I copied the link into my blog post. I've edited said post and tested the link, and it's working now.

Edit 2: Turns out I'd made an assumption on rules wording that may not actually be the case. So there's going to be a v1.41 that cleans and clarifies up a couple of things, but that probably won't be uploaded until next week. Short version: Any time you see the Force dice symbol, it's meant to be "roll Force dice equal to your Force Rating" not "roll a single Force die."
