Moving Through Asteroids?

By eagletsi111, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just had a major issue with a store I play at. They litterally flew through asteroids and took a shot at me. they said, that overlapping is only when you stop on top of it. I was sure they had to roll if the base or ship passed through it?

I just read the rules again and it does say if the base or ship overlaps the asteroid? Is this correct? Can somone confirm the rules for me thanks

If the ship's final position or the movement template overlaps the asteroid the ship will skip its preform action step and roll an attack dice, suffering whatever result.

Additionally, while a ship's base is currently overlapping an asteroid, it cannot attack.

So, it is entirely possible to fly over an asteroid and still get a shot as long as you don't actually land on it.

Ok. So your saying that if your maneuver template crossed the obstacle then you must roll? Or are you saying only if you overlap the asteroid, by stopping on it do you roll?

You only roll for asteroid damage if:

1) You overlap it by stopping on top of it

2) You maneuver template crosses the asteroid?

Not when:

1) You template doesn't overlap, but your ship base goes through the asteroid

Correct?

You can get a really clear explanation here, with pictures to help.

You roll for damage when you start your move, and then your maneuver template overlaps the asteroid, or you land on the asteroid. If you start on the asteroid, and your maneuver template overlaps the asteroid, you roll for damage.

You cannot fly thru asteroids with impunity...

Note on page 20 of the rulebook the section in question is even labeled: Moving Into and Through Obstacles. ;)

Ship base doesn't "go through" anything. Ships start at one end of the template and arrive at the other end and only the template and the final resting spot matter.

If your template crosses an asteroid you lose your action and roll damage, but can shoot if your base lands clear of the obstacle.

If your base is overlapping any part of the rock, do the above AND you are unable to shoot.

Ok. Got it.

So if you stop ontop it's obvious. You roll damage roll and cannot take actions or attack.

If your template (Assume this is Maneuver template) crosses and asteroid, but you move beyond it, then you roll for damage, and lose your action, but can still attack.

Correct? So all of the guys ties that flew straight through the Asteroids and stop on the other side would still have to roll a damage roll, and could not take actions, but still shoot.

So big ships can effectively fly around asteroids, as long as they don't stop ontop of them, and their manuever template doesn't cross them. Even if their base does cross asteroid, it doesn't matter, since it has to be the template?

Thanks for that! Great Website and now I clearly understand.

In my game only 2 of his guys actually had the template go through the obstacles, one only had 1 hull left. So he would have to roll for damage since his move template crossed it. But since he didn't stop on top of it, if he survived the damage roll he could shoot, but not take any actions.

I probably still would have lost, but he didn't roll for Damage because he said he didn

t overlap.

Thanks guys
