Middle Earth's Mightiest Heroes

By CaffeineAddict, in Strategy and deck-building

After losing a bunch of games to Voice of Isengard with random decks i had lying around, I built a new one to take on it's quests, which won all three in a row. This is a first draft of the deck. Suggestions welcome.

Heroes (3)

Aragorn (Lore)

Glorfindel (Spirit)

Boromir (Tactics)

Deck (50)

Allies (27)

3x Henamarth Riversong

3x Silvan Refugee

3x Vassal of the Windlord

3 x Miner of the Iron Hills

2 x Warden of Healing

3x Envoy of Pelargir

2x Arwen Undomiel

3x Defender of Ramas

3x Saruman

2x Gandalf (Hobbit)

Attachments (12)

2x Rivendell Blade

3x Gondorian Shield

3x Light of Valinor

2x Asfaloth

2x Unexpected Courage

Events (11)

3x Daeron's Runes

3x Elrond's Council

3x A Test of Will

2x Feint

Starting threat is 28. Using Boromir, Saruman and Gandalf can make the threat rise quite quickly, but it can be reset with Aragorn. The idea is to get multiple uses per round out of powerful cards (Boromir readying, Glorfindel with light, unexpected courage, Hobbit Gandalf), so a quickly rising threat is irrelevant, as you power through the game quite quickly.

As this is a three-sphere deck, all the cards are cheap 0,1 or 2, except for neutral cards.

Yep, using these 3 heroes is a strong build for sure.

The only thing I see that is lacking in card draw, but if you are suing it for VoI, that's probably okay.

I would think the Westfold horse breeder would be a good addition to get Asfaloth. how often are you losing your Silvan Refugee to Vassal of the Windlord of other allies leaving play the horse breeder might be a good replacement. But you will be losing some WP.

You add 3 copies of Saruman? That mean you know what to do with him. I try to use him but..... most of the time he sticks in my hand. He really depend on situation. How you use him?

If i wasn't playing against VOI, I'd probably have Ancient Mathom in there. I was concerned about the penalties of hand size/drawing cards, so i opted to include Daeron's runes as my only draw, as it's more selection than straight draw, and I can time the playing of it to affect me less.

I'll try the horse breeder - I was considering it, but it didn't quite make the cut when i was putting the first draft together. So far i've only lost the refugee a few times due to other allies leaving play, but thats probably because it doesn't live that long in most of the games i've played. I think i'll try swapping it out for the horse breeder and see how it plays.

I think Saruman is a great card. I'm surprised you can't find opportunity to play him - even if you disregard his ability, which is very situational, he has awesome stats for a very cheap cost, and can really get you out of a tight spot, giving you the extra boost you need for questing or defending, or just soaking up damage. Where I find he really excels, though, is attack. An extra 5 attack for 3 resources really comes in handy against the armies of enemies, particularly as we're seeing stat-creep on enemies.

The quest stage where you need to clear all the enemies to win is a good example - he can take one out by entering play, and can likely kill another (possibly with aid from Boromir if it's a tough one).
