Last night a YV-929 appeared in our campaign for the first time and the GM and I noticed something odd. The YV-929 costs 380,000 credits. But the YV-929 from the WEG system only costs 250,000 new and it has significantly greater firepower. We went over both sets of stats and the only advantage the Dangerous Covenants version has is that it has six months worth of consumables rather than three so why does it cost so much more? Logically wouldn't removing the turbolasers and one of the missile launchers make the ship substantially cheaper?
YV-929 cost
Technically, the YV-929 doesn't show up until 6ABY, at least according to Wookiepedia. Then again, wookiepedia also indicates the same cost you noted. However, I think the YV-929 represents a significant uptick in firepower that might want to stay out of players hands until they've been at things for a while. The 380,000 book cost could be reflective of its newness and rarity at the time of the game.
Of course, you could always house rule it back to the 250K. ![]()
I do not think it's logical to compare credit cost of two completely separate RPG systems, even if they are for the same setting.
Edited by kaosoeFFG has altered the timeline/economy. Pray they don't alter it further.
I actually don't believe that, I just wanted to quote Vader. I say good riddance to any WEG/d20 legacy.
Here's another advantage that the Dangerous Covenants has.. it part of a non defunct game line.
To all the people who keep going on about the old WEG version, I have to ask, why do you bother playing Fantasy Flights version? I am honestly curious. I've seen a plethora of posts that seem to amount to complaining that Fantasy Flight is doing it different to how WEG (or even d20) have done things. Why play this version, if all you do is complain about it being different.

It's generally not logical to compare ship write-ups from separate RPG systems as well.
For instance, the stock YT-1300 has only had a single light laser cannon and no shields since the WEG days, which was carried over through all the d20 systems. And yet FFG gave the stock YT-1300 in their system a pair of medium laser cannons and what amounts to shields in the form of a Defense rating.
There's also the Ghtroc 720, which in prior systems wasn't quite as durable in terms of hull rating, but had shields by default to make it a bit more resilient than the YT-1300 on top of having a better handling/maneuverability rating, and yet Enter the Unknown gave us a Ghtroc 720 that's a lot sturdier than a YT-1300, as a turret-mounted weapon (prior systems gave the ship a fixed-forward weapon) and a worse handling rating than the YT-1300. Or the Jumpmaster 5000, which FFG apparently opted to list the cost at the "used" price. The Firespray is also far less sturdy than it was in any of the prior systems (in terms of hull rating, it was on par with most light transports).
Could just be the author (or editor) felt the "standard accepted price" was too low for a ship packing that much firepower, especially given the three concussion missile launchers that come standard and the pair of Linked 2 blaster cannons.

The first time it is seen in an EU story was 6 ABY. However its background makes it clear that it was older than that since it is mentioned as being used by the Alliance to Restore Republic.
Besides the same logic could be applied to the Pocket Patrol Boat which had never been seen before 19 ABY until Sums of Fortune came out. And most of the cases where we have for ship models across multiple systems actually match up based on what I can find or have changes to specifications that explain the difference in cost. However the YV-929's changes would logically make it cheaper but instead its price increased by slightly over 50 percent. . .
You have to account for inflation as well. Those WEG books were published some time ago!
