Homing Missiles and Deadeye

By Guitarquero, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Quick rules question, sorry if its been answered before i couldn't find anything about it.

So Deadeye states you treat Attack [Target Lock] as Attack [Focus].

Homing Missiles says Attack [Target Lock] so okay that's straight forward.

Here's where it gets confusing: In dead eye it then states; "When an attack instructs you to Spend a target lock, you may spend a focus instead."

The thing is Homing Missiles don't Spend target locks you keep them. but you do need a target lock to use it.

So basically what I'm saying is can you use Homing missiles with focus's and keep the focus or would you not be allowed to fire the homing missile without the target lock.

The thing with homing missiles is you dont really even need dead eye to begin with because your not wasting your target lock so you can use for re rolls regardless. I just thought it was Interesting.

Feel free to call me an idiot if its cut and dry = D

When an attack does not instruct you to ... you do nothing.

The first part of deadeye still applies.

Yes you can.

Edit:

With both TL+focus deadeye does not matter one way or the other. If you have only focus deadeye helps.

Idiot.

Just kidding. Deadeye basically gives you two ways to use Focus in place of Target Lock. To meet the requirement as far as which one you need to have on you, or to meet the cost when you need to spend a target lock.

With Homing Missiles, all it means is as long as you have a focus on you, you can fire the missile (using focus on place of TL) and then still have the focus to spend modifying the attack roll.

In other words on a homing missile only one of the two things Deadeye can do is actually even an option.

Ah okay thats what i thought but just wanted to know for sure, Like i said you dont even need dead eye for homing missiles to be amazing with just a focus + TL pretty much auto hits unless you have cold dice.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Im trying to make lists using EPT's that aren't commonly used.

Well, Deadeye helps you a little in that situation by letting you attack anyone in your firing arc (at range 2-3) instead of just the ship you have the target lock on. So sometimes still helpful?
