I have been out of the loop with X-Wing for a bit, and currently catching up on purchases. Ever since winning the first event (and my Firespray) I have been an Imperial player, and I love competitive play.

I currently own 6 regular TIE, 3 Advanced (yeah, once upon a time ...), 1 Lambda Shuttle, 1 Firespray, 1 Interceptor.

Should my next purchases be more of some stuff I already own, the Imperial Aces, or the Bomber? I currently look at either 1 big ship or 2 small ships for the next trip to the store, so budget is an issue I am afraid.

I would go with the aces...they are more fun than the bombers. They also come with 2 push the limit cards, witch are nice to have.

You can plug them into a list and they are useful........not so much with the bombers.

I would say it depends on your play style and your personal preference.

Bombers are awesome and are viable after they drop their ordnance, they are a tough dog fighter.

Aces is nice for the new pilots and the up grades.

My favorite ships are the Bomber and the Squints, so either one is a good choice in my book. get at least 2 bombers though if you go that route, or 3 ..

You're doing it wrong! The point is to buy lots of cool toys, and occasionally play with them.

Jonus in the bomber is best buds with krassis in the firespray with HLC sooo much damage, i usually run jonas with PTL and Asssault missiles to get the ball rolling

Biggest thing with bombers is they work best in groups or paired with other ordnance based ships. for instance, Jonus is a great backup for Krassis+HLC or a Buzzsaw shuttle with HLC. Just make sure you NEVER field Jonus without his own ordnance. I have also seen many a TIE swarm fall victim to this list:

Fly in formation. Launch ALL assault missiles during the first round of combat. Most should connect with rerolls from Jonus. On the first K-turn drop ALL seismic charges. Bombers should be able to cleanup any ships that remain with focus fire, but may take a few turns. Have also seen it work well if you drop the seismics and promote the scimitars to Gammas.

I love the bomber, and I think it is really underplayed. But, I also love my new Aces set. Lots of interesting build possibilities with the Ace Pilots, too. Carnor Jax REALLY helps against TIE swarms. Kir Kanos works well IN TIE swarms. The rest are really good at arc-dodging, which takes practice but keeps you alive.

If only going to buy 2 small ships, id go with Imperial Aces, probably. You can easily add one Ace or PTL Royal Guard to just about any list and have a clutch flanker or late game piece.

However, adding 1 Bomber with Homing missiles to a swarm can give you one heavy hitter for less points than a firespray, and more maneuverablilty than a lambda. I am sort of fond of this option. 2x homing missiles is my favorite loadout.

Though, in groups of 4 or 3+support, Bombers seem to work best.

i would go aces before bombers, i went and bought 4 bombers and i really regret it, the bomber is really a tricky ship to use. It's dial is not as user friendly and you always want to spend more point on it to make it useful but then you end up missing with your missiles or get taken out before even firing them from focused fire. They really need more pilots. Rhymer is very costly and Jonus is like taking 50pts of ships because your going to take other ships with secondary weapons to use his rerolls. And although ppl like taking Krassis with Jonus imo it just puts a big bullseye on Krassis, in our Store championship my last opponent had a Krassis+Jonus build and Krassis fired his HLC once before i obliterated him, after that it was 6 vs 2 and he had no chance.

I forgot to add, Bombers LOOK the coolest of the TIE ships. They are just so big and durable looking, even at 1/270 scale. They alsoget the Blue TIE color, which is great!

Also, running naked Scimitars, the PS2 bomber, can be prettt good too! They don't cost much more than an academy tie, can't be 1 shot, and get to TL, for TL + F stacking when you choose not to spend the TL on that range 3 shot, etc etc. I mean, they are technically harder to kill than an X Wing by 1 hp, but more prone to crits.
