Chewie and 2 B's. Which combo?

By Ben Curry, in X-Wing

Hi guys,

I have a store championships coming up and I have decided that I want to fly the falcon seeing as it was one of the first ships I picked up and other than the TIE Bomber its the one I have used the least.

I have also been searching everywhere to get my hands on a 2nd B_wing, so now I have 2 it seems rude not to use it.

So the list is Chewie and 2 B-Wings but the remaining 14 points I'm not at all set on.

My first list was the addition of 2 Heavy Laser cannons. I like the idea of Chewie as a distraction while the HLC's hang back and blast.

Then I started thinking that Expert Handling on the falcon would be fun, so arrived at this:

Chewie, Expert Handling

Blue, HLC, Fire Control System

Blue, Advance Sensors

But now my OCD is twitching because the 2 B-wings are armed differently...

So do I drop the HLC and upgrade both to AS + Daggers and give Chewie anther upgrade?

Any help for a Falcon noob!

The Falcon really wants gunner, so you're not wasting half your points with a single missed shot. IMO go with two blues with advanced sensors, gunner, and either marksmanship or expert handling. I like marksmanship better because I really want my big ship to do enough damage to justify taking it, especially in the fairly short window before the B-wings are destroyed, but expert handling on a large ship obviously has its advantages.

there seems lots of love for tooled up falcon. From my limited experience with and against it, it's a bad idea. A unless dice go hot you end up with your opponent mobbing it to destroy it quickly or ignoring it and letting 1 damage through so gunner won't trigger

I see how 1 damage can be useful especially against a priority target but I think if rather keep him cheap.

My idea was for a cheap falcon and scary B's so the B's become priority and chewie is my end game trump card.

Chewbacca, expert handeling, nien nunb.

Dagger, advanced sensors

Dagger, advanced sensors

99 pts for initiative versus other PS4 squadrons.

It requiers close to perfect flying though.

Or

Chewbacca, luke, nien Nunb, expert handeling.

Blue, fire-control

Blue, fire-control

This was a squad (I THINK!) that made the top 16 in the latest Vassal HiLo tournament. I realy like this falcon build because it is a build were luke is a great addition with expert handeling (a barrel roll and a minor focus attack on the offense).

Fair - but if a cheap falcon is what you seek, ORS+APL is one of the best units in the game. Preemptively flying it into your opponents flightpaths forces your opponent to either lose ground and actions (with the possibility of a cheeky damage) by crashing, or to fly around ORS and into a waiting fleet. ORS at range 1 is also an oft-ignored force to be reckoned with.

I never fly named YT-1300 pilots myself, I've never been much of a fan of HSF and the like!

Here is a defensive list that the folks at the FLGS like to call "Chewbacca is a House"

Chewbacca

+Elusiveness

+Millennium Falcon Title

+Hull Upgrade

Dagger Squadron Pilot

+Fire Control System

x2

100 Points

They will have to focus on Chewbacca while your B-wings, blast away with hopeless abandon.

Heavy laser Cannon. Trust me, Having 4 shots at any range is lethal. Tie swarms may give you trouble.

I lost to blue chewie in the final match at my Store Champ, its a very good list if flown properly.

How did he fly the falcon? As a big distraction that you can't ignore?

But there's no such thing as a "cheap Falcon", unless you drop all the way down to an ORS. Your choice is a single ship that takes up half your points and has a single 3-dice attack, or a single ship that takes up half your points and has a second chance with its 3-dice attack. If you're going to invest half your points in a single ship you absolutely need it to be damaging something every turn, and that means gunner.
