Ion Missiles & A-wings??

By R22, in X-Wing

Okay, the fight over using the -2pt cost refit aside, I'm a litle surprised I don't see people talking about the ion missiles more. Am I reading them wrong or are they just being overshadowed? They deal 1 damage and 2 ion tokens. TWO. For highly manueverable ships like A-wings, even with their 2 attack, that seems like a big deal. One hit, one damage. Fine. But now they have TWO 1 straight moves just to undue the ionization. Heck, hit the sucker with multiple ions and just walk a shuttle off the table. A-wings or not, I think that is one great result for a single hit. You set up follow up shots, could block to deny actions, shepherd big ships off the table, render small ships irrelevant to the main fight to restore parity when down a ship, set up somebody like Arvel, set up other weapons because you'll know their range, or guide them into an asteroid. That's not even including ion turrets and/or the ion cannon. "Hello opponent, oh you have a strategy? That's nice. Please grab a water while I render your list and decisions moot for two rounds."

... unless I'm just misreading something. But still!

Unfortunately, all ion tokens are removed after one turn of straights.

I really wish it didn't work that way, but it does.

Sorry to bust your bubble.

The missiles hand out two ion tokens so you can ionize a Large ship with a single successful missile attack.

Arvel + Ion + Opportunist

Perfect battering ram. Considering you potentially can retain the TL from the Missile. As long as Arvel is ramming a higher PS ionized ship he doesn't need to rely on a different ship to deny actions for him. And he won't get shot back at...

%^@&$#@!

Would treating ions like stress/greens, the way I thought, make them OP anybody think? I just think that would be so gnarly.
