asteroids

What if there was an upgrade or crew that allowed force users to move asteroids? Too game breaking?

Yeah i think so, i think 1 thing that could be cool is making a new bomb that can destroy asteroids! It would have to be range 1 and would only destory the closest asteroid, but i think it could be cool.

I like asteroids. I wouldn't want to destroy them.

I would be totally cool with destroying asteroids.

As long as they broke apart into two asteroids of equal shapes and sizes.

It would be a viable way to win.

Start the game with 4 big asteroids.

Shoot all the asteroids on your enemies side.

Wait.

At store championships, I dropped a Bomb directly on an asteroid and was pretty sad when the asteroid didn't get blown up and deal extra shrapnel damage. :(

(1) Cool idea I love it!

(2) Yes.

My answer to (2) doesn't contradict my answer to (1) because it is a cool idea that I'd love to see. Just for fun.

When have you seen a force user move an asteroid?

It takes quite a bit of effort just to move much smaller objects like X-Wings, so how would a force user move something significantly larger whilst also busily trying to fly their own starfighter?

Well, I've read of a group of them catapulting a star destroyer to the other side of a star system. Thought that bit was really stupid though, so...

I do like the idea of a special scenario or something that has the two of you playing asteroids though. Start with some really big rocks that you can blow up into progressively smaller pairs. You'd need a mechanic for the asteroids to move, however I think.

You forget, size matters not.

I think you'll find it does. The movies seem to evidence that moving small objects like stones and lightsabers can be done easily and quickly. Moving larger objects however takes more effort and they move slower.

Just imagine that the little triangular spaceship is an A-wing...

I'm sure I heard somewhere of a force user bringing a star destroyer crashing down from orbit....

.....not sure where though. Can't see it myself.

:P

A scatter Dice works well for moving Asteroids. But my question is why on earth would you want to shoot an asteroid.

I think we will have to wait or the HUGE ships with tractor beams to start moving asteroid and other stuff around ;)

Um, unless it is a Star Destroyer (and even that is a "maybe") you cannot ignore the effects of mass. Latch on to an asteroid with your ship. Which has more mass? In most cases, the asteroid. Use your tractor beam. Which thing is going to move the most? Mass wins every time. Ok, add acceleration to the ship. Still likely not enough to overcome the massive (sorry) mass effect.

Hey Luke managed to crash into a planet and his only concern was that the ship was stuck, not broken. In fact it was able to just fly away unhindered and he didn't even get whiplash.

I'm not saying Yoda must have been entirely responsible but ah... just seems a little unusual.

I've always wanted to make rules for moving asteroids. Would make things a lot more tense during planning! Here's my idea so far:

-Modify or make asteroid tokens that have the 'studs' for movement templates

-Asteroid placement is normal at the beginning of the game, but the player placing also gets to choose orientation and speed (straight headings only) when he puts the asteroid down.

-Asteroids move at the beginning of the activation phase (effectively pilot skill 0)

-When an asteroid goes out of the play area, one player chooses a new location for it at the edge of the play area. Players switch back and forth (player with initiative places first)

Could also have rules for blowing up asteroids

-Any asteroid caught in the blast of a bomb is destroyed

-Any time the extra die granted from asteroid cover makes the attacker miss, the asteroid is destroyed

Combining those with the moving asteroid rules I outlined above would mean that the board wouldn't clear out over the course of the game
