Ace vs Ace, Kir vs Carnor.

By Rhandolph, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hello,

I wanted to aquaint myself with what the aces can do so fought a duel between Carnor Jax (Guard Tie, Determination and shield upgrade) and Kir Kanos (Guard TIE, shield and Hull upgrade), both on 31 points.

It began as a joust, but with Carnor trying to close the gap for range one bonuses (no evading or focus dodge) and Kir trying to do the opposite (convert an evade to a hit at ranges 2-3). It was a real battle of maneauvers as each ace tried to get to optimum range. First blood went to Kir, knocking out Carnor's shield. Both turned straight back and repeated and Carnor got a hit in. Frustratingly for him though he was always ending up out of range one, even with a boost being a fraction out.

Kir did a sharp turn to break the dueling sweeps and denighed Carnor getting close by further barrel rolling out of his arc, both pilots did this on occasion, something I definiately need to remember.

More cat and mouse followed with Kir playing the mouse more often than not, taking an evade order to dodge or to convert to an auto hit if the chance came up, both were whittled down to one hull point.

Finally both ships came to a point where they were in range one at a slight angle but capable of firing. Karnor fired first but his shots passed into the void and Kir got a shot home.. game over!

Have them go at it again with Jax having PTL and stealth device :)

I would give Kir Kanos a target Computer and Stealth device instead of the hull and shield, so when he have no line of sight he can have a reroll for his next attack combined with his evade. Also, if you get into range 1 of Jax, you can still use it. And Stealth device+evade can be nasty.

And to be fair and test their real potential, you should do what Takeda said and equip Jax with PtL and a Stealth device.

My main issue with KIr is that he has no EPT and they should have designed it to be the focus to pitch for an extra attack instead of an evade! Your far more likely to hit more taking a focus action than you would taking the evade to boost your attack. If they had made it focus you could have at least waited to see how your attack roll was... If it turned out u hit on all three , them use it. A regular royal guard pilot is wayyyyyy better than KIr . KIr would have be awesome if only he had a EPT.

I have the same issue with Kir, he really needs to combine his free damage with something to make it worthy, or you're better off with a RG with PtL or a SS with Opportunist. Only ways I found is giving him a TC so he can use it to set his attack, or pairing him with Vader+Squad Leader or Colonel Jendon. Since I'm not fond of the shuttle or sticking to range 1 of it, I would go with Vader that could give him an action if he's in better position than him to attack. Squad leader has a range of 2 and since Vader is PS9, you have a good idea of where the enemy is at and what it will shoot at, he still have his second action to take an evade. Here's what I will try to test both new Aces out:

Vader with Royal Guard escort:

-Vader with Squad Leader, Stealth Device and Homing Missile

-Carnor Jax with Push the Limit and Stealth Device

-Kir Kanos with Stealth Device and Targeting Computer
