What was missing for the rebels aces being the best release ...

By Salamanderjunior, in X-Wing

I put here my opinion . Nobody is forced to agree with me .

The excitement I felt with the announcement of the Imperial aces , was not the same with the rebels aces , even though I was with a very high expectation of this release .

First : I was hoping for something for a-wings and y -wings and perhaps x -wings . But b-wings ? B -wing is the wave 3 is freshly baked in our game .

Second: While I like most of the empire , I play with the rebels too. Many players are rebels players and go buy the imperial aces , why? Why have Upgrades ( EPT and modifications ) that they can use in their rebel ships.

Ask : Out of the new card sensor and proton rockets , what in rebels aces pack that may be useful to the empire?

I believe that the launch of the rebels aces was a little weak for the content of the cards . Even the rebels themselves . Since now the wings can double EPT was missing some new cards EPT.

There came no modification and nor crew cards that can be used by both sides.

These reasons make me dislike a bit of this release .

I do not know if you are someone who thinks so anymore. I believe that both, the rebels and the empire were, not well endowed with this release . Had enormous potential but was wasted.

Everybody has their hopes and dreams to what they want to see added to the game. Your making a judgment before we even have all the details. Hell, even FFG doesn't have all the details since they changed the name on one of the cards already. We have 4 new X-Wing pilots coming with the transport. That will be enough for now without including them in Aces. There are so many products announced that we have little to no information on. Let hold off on calling the Rebel Aces a waste until we see everything that comes with it. <<that message also goes to all the freakouts over the Rebel Aces being over powered as well.

This here is the ultimate proof that you can't please everyone. While some say "Do I have to buy Lambda shuttle to get Advanced Sensors?! I don't even play imps!" others complain that there is no reason for imperial players to buy Rebel Aces :)

Imperial players will get Proton Rockets and Enhanced Scopes from Rebel Aces, just as Rebels got Opportunist and Hull Upgrade from Imperial Aces.

Edited by Vorpal Sword

Enhanced Scopes is far better on the shuttle than it would be on a B-wing, because B-wings generally want to out-maneuver their opponents while a Shuttle does not have that ability, but is an amazing blocker. Likewise, the Empire is better at popping off missiles than the Rebellion is (for now, anyway.)

Do a lot of people only play 1 faction? My whole friend group all play both, if we play 2 games we always switch sides. Just curious why some folks would want to only have imps or rebels?

While I agree the y-wing could have used some cards to boost them up a bit, I feel like the x-wing has more than plenty. They already have pilots from the core, the expansion, and now the transport. The a wing and b wing doesn't surprise me, 1 ship that needed some help, and one already beloved that we can love more now. :)

Do a lot of people only play 1 faction?

I would say based on completely unscientific results that most people play both. I base that on the people I see posting here, and other boards. X-Wing is cheap enough that you can have a full collection of both sides for about the same price as a single 40k army.

That is changing now, with each release the cost of a collection goes up by quite a bit. But you can still quite easily manage enough ships to have good lists from both factions.

We don't know for sure that Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors will be Rebel Only.... they MAY end up being universal.

Nevermind I just looked again. they are clearly rebel only.

That stinks. Imperials need more crew options.

they are clearly rebel only.

Well Kyle is a Jedi, and Jan is his pilot and a rebel agent. Having them as crew for a Imperial ship wouldn't make sense fluff wise.

Some people who only play one faction, probably do so money wise and fluff wise. (They dont like rebel scum/ the Imperial overlords) which is fine and dandy.

Why does a rebel aces pack have to include upgrades that can be used by both sides just because the previous had some doesn't mean they all have too.

People are so quick to develop theories and predictions on what should be added.

when in fact no one knows FFG plans except for FFG. So far they have provided us fans with an amazingly simple and fun game to play with so much variety between factions, Pilots, upgrades and missions that who are we to complain about not being fair to the other faction.

I remember seeing posted that FFG said this game will NOT have linear releases (Or parallel?) thats why imperials have 2 big bases and rebels just have the falcon.

No ones crying over that. well, I'm sure some are.

ITS IMPOSSIBLE to create a balanced game when there are so many variables and point costing. and so far FFG has been doing a really good job with there releases and rules.

Just play and wait Patiently until you get to play test it and decide for yourself if its bad or Over powered or fits just right.

I for one am very excited for everything FFG puts out for this and will wait patiently before making up my mind for any upgrade or pilot.

Everything has a use it just takes some time to find it.

Rant over....

All the rants and raves aside, I think the ships themselves look good, and look forward to seeing them in the flesh (plastic?).

Once we have all the details, Rebel Aces will still be balanced within the game and certain cards will work for both factions. There is a great deal of gnashing of teeth and woe is me, rebel aces are broken etc.

The same occurred with every release prior and still the game is balanced.

I think that with the E-wing having the movement of an a-wing it makes the A wing a hard sell for any list. Aces for rebel was and is a smart move to bring the cost of a-wings down. I have not seen many people play with them but of your giving back free points it's going to make them very nice indeed.

The B and the A where very good picks, but who knows if the other ships might get their own aces before to long.

This is one of the most well balanced and thought out games I've ever played. It is clear FFG knows what they are doing. They obviously do extensive behind the scenes to testing to make sure things "work" with what is already out.

For the love of the Force, can people relax and wait till they have the product in hand before complaining?

The sky is not falling..

FFG have mysterious ways.

Just on the surface, i would have liked to have seen a Y instead of the B. X doesn't need any help from an "aces" pack especially with new X pilots coming with big ships.

However, I am not prepared to write this off just yet because we literally know nothing about the final product. Even the ships in the aces pack may change. Who knows?!?!

Even the ships in the aces pack may change. Who knows?!?!

That's not going to happen. They may make small tweaks to things, but it's far, far to late for them to change what ships are in the pack.

They've already produced the art, the box itself, and posted it on their page. To change that at this point would not only upset a lot of people, it would cost them a lot of money.

Why does a rebel aces pack have to include upgrades that can be used by both sides just because the previous had some doesn't mean they all have too.

No, they don't have to. But given how the system works having upgrades only usable by ships that come with the pack is unlikely. It's a poor return, because the more they limit what ship can use a upgrade, the less impact the upgrade has on the meta, which means fewer sales.

By including cards that are useful for more then one ship, they increase the number of packs they'll sell.

who are we to complain about not being fair to the other faction.

We're their customers, so we have every right to complain about imbalance if we think one exists. Also imbalance causes damage to the game over the long term, so we have a vested interest in pointing out any imbalance we see, or think we see.

Just play and wait Patiently until you get to play test it and decide for yourself if its bad or Over powered or fits just right.

There's a point where you have to actually use the ship/upgrade to know how good or bad it is. But it is also completely possible to look at a card and never use it, but still see if it's a good or bad idea.

I don't have to play with the following missile to know it's broken...

OP'ed Missile 1 point, 5 dice damage. All blanks, [focus] and [hits] on attack dice are converted into to [crit]. All [evades] and [focus] are converted to blanks on defense dice. If the missile hits, all ships with in Range 3 are dealt 3 face up damage cards.

Now clearly that's about as an extreme example as anyone can come up with. But the point is I don't need to use it to know how broken it is. The same is true of some of the cards FFG has spoiled, we can make a decent judgement on how good or bad they are even if we haven't played them.

Personally i think the Ywing didn't happen because they will do a cross faction pack featuring YWings + Tie Advanced.

I was happy about the imperial aces since I'm mostly an imperial player.

But I'm absolutely exited about the rebel aces and I like them so much more and I just don't know all the things in the box.

Just on the surface, i would have liked to have seen a Y instead of the B. X doesn't need any help from an "aces" pack especially with new X pilots coming with big ships.

Don't worry, I'm willing to bet that we will eventually see some sort of Y expansion. There's just too much money being left on the table to skip it. I'd be in on new y's because I'm a sucker for the repaints. Even something as bland as the Gray Squadron colors.

Yeah, I'm primarily for the imperials but that doesn't mean I don't want to try out interesting new rebel abilities and upgrades. I also will enjoy discovering strategies to defeat new rebel pilots and builds.

I'm thinking the next pack will be Mainstays of the Fleet (Imperial) and Rebel Workhorses with the:

TIE/LN and TIE/sa

Z-95 and Y-wing
