Adv. proton torpedo question.

By Rhandolph, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello,

I have just tried using advanced proton torpedoes and don't understand the card.. it says I can change 3 blank attack dice results to focus results.. but I must have target lock orders (not focus) to fire them so.. what use are the focus results without a focus action to use them?

Take a target lock on the enemy ship this turn. The target lock will not expire at the end of the turn.

During a later turn, you can take a focus action while you are within range of the same enemy ship.

Advance Proton Torpedos require some work setting them up for maximum damage.

okay, thank you.

Alternatively you can use push the limits to give you target lock and focus, or use lando, squad leader, Garvan etc.

Big fan of using Dutch/Garven/Kyle to get free TLs or focus.

Something about Dutch giving Garven a TL and Garven giving Dutch a focus is just beautiful :)

If the focus that Garven gives "Dutch" came from Kyle first, it's even better.

The Focus results are useless without a way to convert them. This is why the APT is often considered hard to use as it, more than any other piece of ordnance, needs to be fired with TL + Focus/Marksmanship in order to make the most of it. You want TL+F to fire many things but the APT ups the stakes with so many dice and converting blanks into eye results.
